Port-forwarding fails after several hours
« on: February 04, 2011, 06:30:23 AM »

Greetings everyone!

I am using DIR-655 A4 router and I have a server that needs DMZ and a PC that needs a port.
So, I have set the dmz to 192.168.0.100 (SERVER) and set the port 2000(or any) to forward to 192.168.0.2 (PC).

What I found out was, the port forwarding works well for several hours and suddenly it fails and won't forward until I reboot my 655 router. I am really tired doing this every day.  >:(

I tried firmware 1.21 to 1.35 and non of them were good.

I know that 655 has good performance compare to its price but I think it has world's worst firmware.
Its so unstable.

Have you set up static IPs for all of your devices?

I would ensure that Primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.
I would recommend disabling Advanced DNS Service.

What ISP service do you use? DSL Or Cable?
Is your ISP Modem a stand alone modem or does it have a built in router as well?

Hi flyingchicken,

It is not going to work.

Your computer's IP Address, that your posted, is outside of the DHCP IP Address Range:

Thanks FurryNutz for your reply.

1. Yep I have set the static IP for all computers with Add DHCP Reservation.
2. No I havent set the DNS but my ISP gives it automatically. and I dont use Advance DNS. I'll try setting them manually.
3. My ISP is KT, the one of major network company in Korea. Its connected directly with ISP with RJ-45(100mbps). No Modem or any kind. and I have all ports open.

Hi thecreator,

I have set my DHCP IP Address Range in router config page to 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254
so that won't be a problem.

Does anyone have solution to this problem?

I also tried to use uPNP instead of port forward from 655, but it also fails after several hours and I have to chage to different port to make it work but that port will also fail after several hours making me to choose another.

Hi flyingchicken,

How many computers is your Router serving?

If less than 20 Devices, why not shorten the IP Address Range to 100 to 199 instead of what you have.

See what happens.

Good point there.

I'll change my DHCP range and IP assignment and see.

Thanks

Tried. It still stops working after several hour.
I have very high traffic a day (at least xxGB to even somtimes xxxGB). Cant 655 handle large volume of traffic?

Should I go for RMA? I cant find a way to solve this problem. Dlink support keeps telling me to reset and I done that tenth of times.

I would prusue a different router to see if the same thing happens and while your using a different router, I would do the RMA and send your current router back.
