Hello,
First post here! Here is what I have going on. I have 2 Windows 7 desktops that are both connected to seperate vonage boxes and those vonage boxes are connected to my D-Link DIR-655 router. That D-Link router is getting its connection from a Comcast router. I am looking to get one of the desktops to share a printer from the other one which has it hard wired via USB cable. When I first set this up I did not have the vonage boxes and the desktops were connected right into the router and everything worked fine. Now that the vonage boxes are in place it is a mess. I can get internet fine on both machines, but no file/printer sharing. I have followed all the steps to setup the correct workgroup and file and printer sharing options on both windows 7 machines but they cannot see each other at all. My feeling is that now that the vonage boxes are there that instead of the desktops looking at the D-Link router for its sharing option they are looking at the vonage boxes and that is why they cant be seen. Does this make sense? Is there a firewall on the vonage boxes stopping these two desktops from seeing each other? Do I have to change something on the D-Link router options for it to give access to the vonage boxes for these 2 machines to see each other for printer/file sharing? Any help would be greately appreciated I am at a loss here. Thanks very much!

Wow, interesting setup.

I would presume that your Vonage boxes are hampering the connections between the PCs as you are using 2 different Vonage boxes and they are probably not set up to allow any sharing between PC and or other Vonage boxes. I presume that if you remove the Vonage boxes that you would be able to share the printer and see each pc on the network? Does Vonage have any information on this kind of networking with multiple boxes?

Do the boxes have any sort of menu system that you can view and see if there are any network settings that you can use? Do they have a DMZ?

Thanks for your quick response.  I agree Vonage is messing this up.  I am not near the machines at this point but will be later on today.  I am going to verify today about removing both vonage boxes and plugging directly into the desktops, so I will let you know.  Vonage does have a web setup that you login the ip address of the box for their setup but I am yet to go into it so I will do that as well.  I am not sure about them having a DMZ I am going to log in to the boxes and see if I can disable anytype of blocking that it might be causing.  Would there be anything on the D-Link router that I would need to add for this to be seen, since each box has its own IP address?  Thanks again

I believe there shouldn't be any other settings on the 655 that you need to change. Since the PCs probably work correctly when directly connected to the 655 router in that setting, you shouldn't have to do anything to the router. Theres hopefully something in the Vonage boxes that will open up there ports/networking to allow full data traffic to flow between the 2 PCs when the boxes are in line.

The Vonage boxes are in-themselves also Routers....so You would have to go into the Vonage box setups and make sure to disable DHCP and such things that may well be impacting things....

Not sure why you need each PC to be chained thru a vonage box in the first place as the vonage box, once set up rarely need any adjusting, at that is the case here with my vonage box.

IF you reaally need the PC's to share stuff, you would be far better off having the PC's both go thru the 655 in the first place, and leave the Vonage boxes alone.

Hi honad03v6,

In order for File Sharing to occur, all computers must be attached to the same Router, whether it is the D-Link Router or Vonage Box. Then the computers can see each other.

You might need a switch for the Vonage Boxes to be plugged into.

Or another solution, is to buy the DWA-552 Wireless Adapter Cards for both computers and use the computers, wirelessly to the Router.
