Does 5G and 2.4G work together..
« on: March 06, 2011, 04:46:15 AM »

Hi,

Wifi works fast on 5G, but I have a printer with a built in wifi N card, it seems that it cant see the SSID broadcasting on 5G.

Can the router broadcast on both the 5G and 2.4G, if so how can I set it up to do so.

Right now I have a different SSID name for the 5G and 2.4G, they password for both are the same.

Thanks

Opps, wrong router..

I have a DIR-665, not the DIR-655.

I dont see the 665 listed in the forum.

Any one have any idea on how to get help online for this router.

Thanks

You'll have to probably drop back to 2.4Ghz in using mixed mode on your for your printer.

Use the onboard LAN port if it has one then you can keep your 5GHz going on the WiFi. Add a different WiFi access point to the router that has WiFi support for your printer. Could try and connect the USB from the printer to the back of the router and set it up for shareport. However I think you have to install SP on all PCs that you'd want to connect to the printer.

let me know if this would work...

The sympatico DSL modem has a built in wifi router.

Could I,......

Enable the DHCP server on the DSL/MODEM combo, plug it into my dlink router
The dlink router - I would turn off the DHCP.

So what I want to end up with is a 5GHz dlink router, and a 2.4GHz sympatico router.

I want all my PC's to connect to the dlink 5GHz ssid, and the wifi printer can connect to the dsl/modem combo 2.4GHz ssid.

The goal is to have the PC's to be able to print to the wifi printer.  I hope that since they all will share the same DHCP server that it would work.

If afraid that since all the PC's are connection to a dlink ssid, and the printer is on the dsl/modem ssid, that they wont see each other.

Would any one know if this works.....   Thanks for the currernt hep so far...

Yes you could turn the 655 into a AP, Assign a static IP, subnet and use the IP address LAN side, of the DSL modem as the gateway IP address on the 655 in Setup/Internet/Manual. Set DNS to same Gateway IP address as well since the DSL Modem will be handing DNS requests. I Think you can turn off DHCP of the 655 since the DSL modem will hand out IP's. Set the 655 WiFi to single mode N @ 2.5Ghz. Connect a Lan cable to one of the LAN ports on the back of the 655 to one of the ports on the DSL Modem. Do not use the WAN port.

Let us know how it works out.
