Really slow 802.11n wireless
« on: March 07, 2011, 12:53:40 AM »

Hi!
Just got my fiber Internet 100/100mbit and connected it to the D-Link Dir 655 AP. I only get about 30mbit out of it. I've scanned and tried to change to channel 1, 6 and 11 with no luck, same speed. There is no electronical devices between the AP and the PC. When i go into task manager in Windows, it says i'm connected to the ap with 130mbit. I got the latest firmware.
Anybody know why it's so slow?
Thanks for reply!

Edit:
I'm the only one connected to the AP.

Is 30Mb the speed results being reported back by speedtest.net or something?
Are you using single mode N when your connecting?

If your testing the speed over WiFi then your probably getting the max that your going to see over WiFi. WiFi will not report the same speed test results as wired. Wish I had your speeds.  ::)

Turn turning OFF QOS services on the router.

I have two computers connected to it, one computer run n and the other run g, I do a speedtest with both of the computers, and the strange thing is that i can just use about 30% of the speed they are connected to. The one running n, I only get about 40mbit, and the one running g I only get about 15mbit. So it seems like the AP "slows" the connected computers to 30% av what they actually are connected with.
Any ideas why?

You will see maximum wireless speeds from the 655 when it is running N only wireless, when its is running mixed mode the speed you see will be reduced.

N only
WPA2 with AES

Tried N only with WPA2 AES, still the same speed.

Try running this: INSSIDER

See if you are getting interference from any neighbors.

Tried inssider several times already. There are neighbors running all the channels 1, 6 and 11, so there is no "free" channel for me :( But still, I tried changing to the different channels with no luck.

Part of the "N" Wireless standard is a "Good Neighbor" policy that the router will "throttle down" when it senses other networks, you may be running into this.
