DIR-655 and Qwest Q100 DSL modem don't like each other
« on: March 10, 2011, 07:16:11 PM »

Sorry if this has been addressed many times already -- but I did actually read the manual  ::) , looked at the FAC and tried a search and didn't see anything specific, maybe just some hints.

The service: Qwest ADSL2+

The simple goal: Qwest Q100 modem --> DIR-655 --> direct and wireless connections

The prelude:  Q100 --> PC  without the 655 works fine.   Connect Q100 to DIR-655 and set the 655 to PPPoE with the appropriate username and password (verified!) and most other settings pretty much the default.

The issue:   The 655 will not establish an internet connection wired or otherwise.  The PC can talk to the 655, but it won't connect back through the Q100.

Qwest says set VPI to 0 and VCI to 32 but those settings are not available in the DIR-655.  I have to say on the 3rd attempt, Qwest support spent a fair amount of time with me online trying to get things to work, but nothing doing.

There was some mention about possibly the Q100 needed to be in "bridged mode".  Is this the problem?  Any other specific settings in the 655 I need to be aware of?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Set the modem into bridge mode: Click here for instructions

Setup the 655 to do all your PPPoE with the appropriate username and password.

That was too $#*^&% simple ... complete with a link.  Qwest never mentioned I could access their modem directly ... duh   8)

Thanks!

phone companies dont want home users doing their own stuff...then they cant charge you for a service call....like APPLE, they want as much control over us as possible
