Does anyone know how to block specific applications such as uTorrent?  Or other applications in case the person switches to another downloader?  I do have the DGL-4500 router with Firmware version 1.23NA.

I haven't done anything likes this however you might try:
Access Control

The Access Control section allows you to control access in and out of devices on your network. Use this feature as Parental Controls to only grant access to approved sites, limit web access based on time or dates, and/or block access from applications such as peer-to-peer utilities or games.
Enable
By default, the Access Control feature is disabled. If you need Access Control, check this option.

Note: When Access Control is disabled, every device on the LAN has unrestricted access to the Internet. However, if you enable Access Control, Internet access is restricted for those devices that have an Access Control Policy configured for them. All other devices have unrestricted access to the Internet.
Policy Wizard
The Policy Wizard guides you through the steps of defining each access control policy. A policy is the "Who, What, When, and How" of access control -- whose computer will be affected by the control, what internet addresses are controlled, when will the control be in effect, and how is the control implemented. You can define multiple policies. The Policy Wizard starts when you click the button below and also when you edit an existing policy.
Add Policy
Click this button to start creating a new access control policy.
Policy Table
This section shows the currently defined access control policies. A policy can be changed by clicking the Edit icon, or deleted by clicking the Delete icon. When you click the Edit icon, the Policy Wizard starts and guides you through the process of changing a policy. You can enable or disable specific policies in the list by clicking the "Enable" checkbox.

You'll need to set up a Schedule first I Think.

I have tried this method.  But not sure how to complete it since the IP addresses can vary so much.  The manual isn't very helpful either.  Online FAQ doesn't seem to address such issues either.  Really stumped.  This person is constantly downloading movies and I don't want to get in trouble with a lawsuit plus he is sucking up much of the bandwidth causing lag many times.

first off, you need to set a static IP address to the device in question. It's recommended to set static IP addresses on the router for ALL connected devices. This will ensure that the all devices keep the same IP address. Then go in and set the schedule of when this needs to happen. Then use the Access Control to select the IP address you reserved for that device.

If this person is allowed on your system then I would also set up a gamefuel rule with his IP address and set the priority to like 200 or 255. You need to set up a gamefuel rule for you game console too out lined in the forum stickys at the top. They work. Set the priority to around 10-50 for your console. This will help in that your xbox will get priority traffic over this person DLg if his priority is set to 200-255.

I will guide you through this process it is very simple as long as you know the U torrent ports you want to block access to. Also set a static Ip address for the computer as FurryNutz stated in the post above. I also believe if your friend changes the bit torrent ports he will regain access so in order to completely eliminate him we will have to do a port range block. So yea do you know the U torrent ports that he is using ? If not I will have to get them for you but they vary. I don't really think there is a way to completely block U torrent because he can always change to a port that is not blocked.

Edit: Torrents can be a very dangerous! Certain ISP will throttle and monitor your traffic and if you are downloading illegal stuff you are probably going to get hit with your first Copyright Infringement letter! They can terminate your service or if the company wants they can sue.

Wow Good point Furry! Because if this person is not allowed in your network you can simple just block his mac address! Mac addresses can be change but I hardly doubt he knows how to do that!

To everyone who has replied.

Yes I have set static IP addresses from within the router itself.  This person does reside in my household.  I know how to block the MAC address but hate to block everything, just want to block uTorrent or similar software he may switch to.  Plus he can switch to another PC or a laptop and start downloading from there.  I have 4 PC's and 2 laptops in the house.  He doesn't have access to all of them but he can use 2 PC's or a laptop.  So I really need to have this set in the router as permanent as possible.  It's really a shame they don't make this easier.  I don't know the port numbers or range he is using.  Any help would be appreciated.

One thing you could do if your master of the universe at your place. I recommend limiting this person ability to access devices in the house if you can do that. This will help in setting up the router as you won't have to work about putting everything in rule on the router. Keep this person to 1 or 2 devices and thats is. All others should be off limits. It's going to be hard to keep up if he decides to change applications, as how you'll have to find the all the port information again for that application and enter those into the router. This person an adult? He pay or chip in for internet?

One suggestion to Lookin, if Robe can't seem to configure the router with your information, Might ask him about using Team Viewer so that maybe you can remote in and do the configuration yourself if he agrees and will watch you. This program is very handy in some cases.

I am the system admin of the house network, don't know about master of the universe.     This person is my daughter's BF.  So he has access to the same computers she does or I'm sure she will give him her password, so he is limited to his PC, her PC and her laptop.  He is an adult of 23 and doesn't contribute anything towards anything.  It's complicated, every time my daughter and him break up, she lets him back in and it really irks me.  I am familiar with Team Viewer and am open to that suggestion.

Yes I know all the IP addresses he has access to.  All my PC's are set with static IP address.  I did this through the router, I hope that is sufficient.  I can always change what I need to.  I have already set up Access Controls.  So continue at your leisure.

Then you need to limit access for your daughter and BF then as a recommendation, one PC or LT. Change the PWs on the other PCs. Keep your setup simple as much as possible as an Admin. If he's not contributing anything, if he wants Torrents and DLs, then I recommend he chip in or get his own Internet. My 2 cents.  

Also again, make sure that when Lookin gets this setup for you. Get your game console and these other devices in Gamefuel and set there priorities to low, 200-255.  Set your game console to high, try 10-50 first, higher if you need. The higher you go the more your other devices will notice a slow down in Internet while your gaming so be aware of that.

I don't game on the console.  That again is daughter's BF.  Between XBox 360 & downloads he hogs so much bandwidth.  I do game on the PC but not on the console.  Should I be concerned about setting PC's up in gamefuel?

Let me show you how to block u torrent! So far users are reporting that U torrent utilizes ports 6881 to Port 6999 we will block those. Blocking ports may be dangerous because it might limit other programs devices Etc Lets begin. Once you have logged in and are at the router interface via 192.168.0.1

Navigate to Advance > Access Control. Enable it, Select add policy, click next > add a Policy Name > Click Next > Schedule should be selected to always > Click Next, Now it is always best to block by mac addresses as a mac address does not change, but we can just do the Static Ip, Please remember to add Static Ip address not Dynamics. Now add all the PC's you would want to block access to, select them from the list and then select ok, Click next once done you are done adding all the Pc's. Method = Block Some Access & now select Apply Advance Port Filters, Click Next, Now enable the first rule you see there & name it such as "uTorrent Block" Leave the Ip part empty! Protocal = Any Dest Port Stat is 6881 & Dest Port End is 6999, Now hit save and were Done!

Please Note: These ports might not be the uTorrent ports, I did not download the program myself and tested it, and I got them from the forums over an uTorrent. The router might log you out if you take too long during the process. Need any help, just ask, me and FurryNutz are here to help so are others. I will assist you via team viewer if necessary.
