Author Topic: F\W 2.03 and 2.05 limits upload speed but D-Link acts like they don't know  (Read 6691 times)

I hate to have to post this, but D-Link won't sticky the information. F\W's 2.03NA and 2.05NA limits upload speed by default to 1MB(1024kb) in the QoS settings. I take no credit for this information. I happened across it recently and was able to fix my upload speed problem with 2.03\2.05. My internet speed should be around 25MB down and 3MB up.

2.02NA didn't have this problem. I contacted D-Link support after 2.03 came out and they had me jumping thru hoops trying to get the problem fixed. They appear to know less about their hardware and software than users here do. They NEVER pointed me to the QoS limit that was causing my 3MB upload speed to be cut by 2/3rd's. I explained the problem in the most simplest way I could originally and after some back and forth with no fix, they actually asked me to explain to them again what was happening. DUH! Your 2 most recent F\W's degrades my 3MB up load speed, THAT I PAY FOR FROM MY ISP, and reduces it to 1MB. It can't be easier to explain.

Last week I happened across a statement in the "firmware" thread that mentioned the issue I was having and something about a QoS setting. I didn't know what they were talking about. I did some Googling and found out about the issue I was having on another forum and where to find the setting when logged into the router and how to change it to fix the problem. Now I can use the latest F\W and get what I pay for from my ISP.

I asked D-link, just a little harshly, to inform owners of the DIR-825 of the issue and the fix by placing a sticky in this forum. I then asked them to respond that they would do so. I haven't heard a peep. I guess they got their feelings hurt by my honesty. I didn't curse at them, but I didn't mince words either. They put me thru a dance that was a huge waste of my time while someone else finds the fix to their problem that THEY CAUSED.

Now the only thing wrong is that the SharePort Utility doesn't function on my Windows 7 PC. It works on my Vista PC. It worked for a couple of months on my Win 7 PC and then just quit one day. I'm not the only one having the exact same problem. It can be seen in the SharePort forum. D-Link is passing the buck.

Thanks to "orgwizard" and his post http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=21333.15 that I happened across in the Firmware thread that got me on the way to fixing D-Links problem.

I don't know what you are talking about because I don't know if I have a problem with the 5ghz radio as I have nothing that can use it.

If you read my original post above you would see that I have the problem fixed because of "happening" across a post in this forum from a non-D-Link person that mentioned the problem that I was having and noting that others had the same problem. I didn't know about what they mentioned, which as above stated, the QoS setting being set by default in the 2.03 and 2.05 that was limiting the upload speed to 1MB.

Read the rest of the original post closely and you should be able to see I am here letting users know that there is a problem with the F/W's above 2.02 that limits uploads to 1MB. If your ISP provides you with something above that, in my case 3MB, upgrading the F/W WILL keep you at 1MB unless you manually change the QoS setting. I found on another forum where to find the QoS setting and the thread was about the D-Link F/W's and this exact issue. D-Link Support never pointed me to this setting to check to see what it was set at when I first noticed the problem when I flashed 2.03. They made me jump thru time wasting hoops, never giving me a fix for the problem and leaving me with having to use old F/W that didn't get me the supposed improvements of the latest F/W. It was the same hoop jumping when 2.05 came out.

I take no credit for finding the fix because someone else found it. I am just letting users here know that D-Link appears to know less about their hardware and software than other users. I asked them to post this fix as a sticky themselves. They have chosen not to so I am trying to make sure people can fix their problem with the upload speed if their upload from their ISP is over 1MB.
