Hi,

My firmware is 1.08
I have 2 Seagate Barracuda of 1500 Gbytes
One was degraded.
I buyed another one identical and mount it on DNS-323
When I start the DNS I see the new HD (Seagate  ST31500341AS  9VS4XJCC  1500 GB)
And I see the flag "Reconfigure to RAID 1". But there is NO WAY to check it !

And if I format with "Next" button I simply obtain one RAID_1 and one (the new) JBOD (Linear) HD.

Someone can help me?

There is something not quite right about what you report ...

Assuming that you started with a RAID1 array, if a drive failed, the array would be degraded, and when you install the new drive, you don't need to check that box to rebuild the array - it's there for when you're stating with a single drive and add a second drive and wish to create the array.

Also - if - at that point you click next and you end up with a RAID1 and a JBOD - that would be normal - but only if the new drive was larger than the old, you'd have part of the new drive used in the RAID1 array, and the remainder as JBOD.

With the standard firmware - to have a JBOD volume, you MUST have a RAID volume - so the only conclusion I can come to is that your new drive was infact larger than the old - it doesn't have to be much, a gigabyte of two will do it.  This sometimes happens and can also go the other way, I've had new "identical" drives with a slightly lower capacity.

The easiest way to be certain you have a RAID1 array at this point is going to be to back up the data, and reformat the drives as a pair.

thanks for the esplanation about the flag of rebuild driver non flaggable: I had a RAID 1 so is correct, at this point that was not flaggable.

Again, the drives are the same, so I was quite sure to have only a RAID 1.

At present my situation with the new driver is:

So seems to be what you say: I just have a JBOD of  2671 MB; the other capacity is all in RAID 1.

To bakup the data is not so simple (I have to pass via FTP on a PC and then save all on a USB driver, will be slow and... expensive )

If I might just point this out to you ...

RAID1 is not a backup - think about what it will cost you in time & money to recreate that data - and then decide if a backup is worth it or not.

It's your choice - it's your data - it's your time - it's your money.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.
