Your gamefuel setup is great and i suggest everyone input his setup. But, wanted to see if we can try something, Furry.


I have 3 Xbox360's on the network. I have no problems out of them. I have set them up and everything works fine. But, i wanted to see if its best to priority those 3 to 1 and be better? You know you are suppose to set it up to Xbox1 is priority 1 and Xbox2 is priority 2 and so on. But, you think it would be better to put them all on priority 1? It could be better for gaming and could depend on what you do on your network?

Actually I'm going to update the gamefuel sticky in regards to having multiple xboxes. Just got to get some time.

As for setting priorities, We've come to find out that setting the priorities to 1-10 seems to make what ever is set at that number, will hog the bandwidth and if you have others online at the same time your playing, can hamper there internet traffic. So seems the setting rules to start around 50-60 seems to allow for good gaming and allows others band width while online. However you can set 1 if you wish. Just know that others may see slower connections if surfing or watching videos.

I see what you mean there, Furry. That is what came through my head. Its hard to play online with multiple 360's with any connection besides a T3. Cause home ISP's only have so much bandwidth. Also i wanted to update that i have 4 Xbox360's on my network, plus a ps3 and 20 different internet devices such as Iphone and other computers. 


I have also thought of this. It is 110% certain that setting priorities for a console was a great feature to put in. Especially as in depth as this router goes. But, i have always thought that if i had multiple 360's on and we are all playing the same game together. Would it just be best to turn gamefuel completely off? This is just a idea. I don't know if you or anyone has tried it.

Its hard for me seeing as 24 different devices are on the network here where i currently live. I could be playing on LIVE and my girl start Netflix, the owner of the ps3 will start watching netflix and start downloading movies all at the same time. You talk about boiling my blood.  The other people in the house know nothing about networking or anything. They have no respect for bandwidth. They just want to get their video's done. As for browsing the web, i have no problems. Only time i see a problem is the people that complain here are the ones that are still running a single core processor.  So, it is not the internet that is slow, it is their computer. But, they will not listen to me. haha


But, i don't know if i get what you are saying. Are you saying to set the Xbox's to around priorities of 50?

Well I have 2 xboxes on my cable 10Mb down and 1Up internet were alone with 20 other devices. Not all online at the same time.

I have a buddy whos got xboxs on 6Mb down and 512k Up DSL and they all play xbox at the same time.
I believe there priorities are 1-3, I think. We recently changed the implementation of gamefule rules for multiple xboxs and not sure if we changes his priorities.

Well, i register 20meg down, 4meg up and 3.5megs of bandwidth. My internet is great. But, when one is watching netflix and the other one starts watching netflix and starts downloading video's. Their is just not enough to game on. Surfing the internet is fine. Doesn't matter what anyone is doing, i surf fast at all times.

I don't see how the video downloader can stand netflix buffering all the time. Then, she comes to me saying the internet sucks. Lol Shows how much she knows. I just want to know what the best setup is for my router when i am able to actually play a game online with my friends. I can't wait to get my new job going again so i can move back out and have all my bandwidth again. Not all the devices are on at the same time. But, it is usually me, my girl, another girl that is on her laptop and her phone and stuff. I don't know why she has to have everything on at once. But, it doesn't effect us. Its only when she starts downloading movies.

I may give it a try to turn gamefuel off next time me and a friend is gaming on my network. If it is just me and him on the network gaming, i will know how good it works.

20 Mbps is pretty good, how do you have your gamefuel set up? if you do disable gamefuel it will just create a mess of 20 devices (I understand not all of them are on at the same time) trying to access at once! which in terms equals to everyone getting massive amount of lag. What I would do is set all the gamers to the highest priority (1-5) and than everyone else to 10-20ish, gaming does not require heavy bandwidth so you will be fine. "Its only when she starts downloading movies." If she torrents than there you go, its the most bandwidth demanding application. I am not trying to hijack the thread since you did specifically asked furry, so I am sorry

For those other devices that are streaming and downloading, you can put those into the gamefule rule as well and give them a lower priority over the gaming devices.

Personally, i created my gamefuel rule IP range to include all the Xboxes in the house (3). I've also got the priority set to one, so in effect all consoles have a priority of one. I have Time Warner Cable's RoadRunner Turbo package (20Mb, 3Mb up in my area). We have no issues gaming, and my wife and the kids not playing have had no complaints about watching Netflix or YouTube videos, etc.

Sounds like yours us up and running well then.

However setting priorities can still effect bandwidth I presume on slower ISP packages. I'm on 10Mb and 1Up and have noticed that before i had put my roomies PC in the rules, I saw some lag while gaming if he was on Ytube. Since then it's been good after I put him in the rule. Having a faster and bigger pipe probably helps too. I wish I had that package.

LookIntoMyEyees, you may post at will man. I just knew that he made the gaming setup and i don't know who all has good experience with the DGL 4500 other than him.

Again i say, i have 22 difference devices on the network. But, all of them are not on at the same time. THANK GOD!


My setup is what you all are saying. Here is a image:




The ones that are priority 254 and 255 are the netflix and downloading. Especially the 255, she has no respect for the household at all. She is the one that takes all the bandwidth constantly with dling videos. I would come sneak in her room and get on Utorrent and find out what port she is using and block that port. But, then she would come to me to fix it.

Here how i have mine set up now. I know I'm working on getting this newer info into the sticky. I want to provide alternatives for single and multiple xboxes and or game consoles. 


Disregard Port 80 and 88 as those are not needed. I was just doing some testing. 
The important 2 rules here are Port 53 and 3074.

As you can see I have 2 xboxes here. In sequence, the IP addresses which are included in the From and To boxes. So if you had 3 or more then this works as well as long as all of the consoles are in IP address sequence and you give the beginning IP address an the ending IP address, everything in the middle will be included in the rule.

I'll take a new image once I go to publish it in the sticky.

I don't know why i didn't think of prioritizing the ports. Sometimes i feel the need to slap myself for certain things. Haha

I will give it a shot. I am looking to make my gaming better when i can play online. When their is to much traffic or bandwidth being used on the net. I don't even bother.

The computers that cause the traffic and bandwidth problems. I set the ports to "any" and the priority to  last(255).

I know, I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. Struck me one day. 

Been working great. Again this is for only XBL. I presume maybe PS can implement something like this.
For all other PCs that connect to the Internet, of course you would use the global settings as in the current sticky info.

I don't play Playstation. The one you see on the network is not mine. It is a girl in the house hold. She is the one that does all the downloading. She uses her Playstation 3 for Netflix. So, i just make it a low priority. Its just 3 things that are set to the lowest. 2 are for the downloading and Netflix from the ps3. The other one is another girl. But, she only downloads when i am not playing online. She has respect for everyone else. Thank god!

I just played some Halo online for the first time in over a year. I actually was in first place and won the game. Seems to work fine to me! Plus, no one is downloading or anything at the moment. I have the bandwidth and internet to myself right now.

Nice man...Ya i get the bandwidth to myself too most of the time. Love the Halo series.
