How do I upgrade to Firmware 1.23NA on DGL-4500
« on: May 10, 2011, 06:52:37 AM »

Hello there. I am only semi familiar with dealing with wireless routers so home here i can get some kind help. I have version 1.12 on DGL-4500 and wonder if I should upgrade to 1.23NA?

What benefits I wonder will I get from this upgrade? I am 60 and I use it for Internet access but I have two teenage sons who are gamers. Plus we use it to stream to Tivo and PSP3.

If you recommended I do this upgrade can you tell me the proper way to do so as when I downloaded the file the warning said do not install over wireless network.

Thank you for any help.

I recommend keeping what is currently loaded on the router if you are not experiencing any problems. You won't gain anything by upgrading or loose anything.
I ran v1.12 on my last 4500 for a long time and it was very stable.

If your sons game, check out the gaming and gamefuel stickys on how to set up game consoles and such. Adding gamefule rules for the game consoles and other devices will help ensure the bandwidth is not being hogged up and everyone is getting a fair share.

I have 2 of these routers and enjoy them greatly. We stream videos, netflix and game on xbox live and general internet.

Let us know how it goes and if you need any help.

Sorry, I should have been more specific, stickies are in the forum lists here. At the top you'll see a few sticky posts. Review them.

You can set up a schedule for the consoles and use access filters on the router to disable Internet access. This will fully cut off access so be aware of that.

If your wanting to schedule wireless as well, then you can schedule wireless operation from Basic/Wireless/New Schedule. This effect everyone however.

well just depends on what your all wanting to shut off.
what is all connected on wired and what is connected on wireless?
Gaming should be wired and this can fall under the schedule for the gamers. If your wanting to schedule wireless usage, that can also fall under schedule and MAC access control as you'll need to specify what devices to include in the filter and schedule. This should prevent access for wired and wireless devices.
