P2P Hibernation and uPnP folder sort order issues
« on: May 16, 2011, 08:28:41 AM »

Hi all,

Not sure if any of you guys can help me out here, but I recently took delivery of a D-Link Sharecenter Pulse DNS-320 - i've set it all up, updated to firmware v2.00 and its working great, but I have a couple of issues i'm trying to iron out, so far to no avail:

1) I've enabled the uPnP/DLNA service - but when viewing the files on ps3 (or using Andromote on my Android) all the folders are in a random order, they are not listed alphabetically. What's that all about? Everything plays fine but it's proving a nightmare to navigate when you have hundreds of music folders  I used FreeNAS previously and this worked fine, although I know that uses a different P2P solution. Any ideas?

2) When the P2P function is enabled, the discs never hibernate and the fan is always on - even when there are no torrent files in the list. As soon as you turn off the P2P function, the drive will correctly hibernate after 5 minutes of inactivity and the fan will turn off. I would understand it not hibernating if there is activity, but there isn't. Any ideas on this one?

Apart from the above annoyances, so far the NAS box has been great.

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone,
I have had my DNS-320 for a week now, and it took my about 3 days to transfer my mp3s from my airlive wmu-6500 to my new NAS. When I was using airlive I installed a custom firmware that allowed my to install and configure minidlna which was easy to use. Folder view was OK.
DNS - 320 though messed up my folder structure witch is something that I don't understand because the database is supposenly only parses that structure. Folders show up in my DNLA enabled home cinema are not alphabeticaly anymore.
I am very dissaponted by this.
Is there any possibility we can install twonkymedia or something like that ?

I've noticed this as well. Maybe we should push D-Link to provide a fix. Do they read these forums?

Hmmm, i'm glad i'm not the only one with this issue!

I guess you could install Twonky using fun_plug but this isn't something i've done before or have looked into. I'd be happy using the stock uPnP/DLNA if it displayed the files and folders in alphabetical order!!

Have you guys encountered the p2p hibernate issue as well?

I really hope DLink read these forums and can escalate them as bugs.

I have a netgear NAS as well that runs dnla server. That has no problem with the order of the folders and files when browsing. That is now full which is why I got the D-Link one but if there's no plans to fix this then I'll have to do some swapping around and use the netgear for dedicated streaming and the d-link for backups only.

Looking into it. Will test with a few different clients here and see what changes need to be made.

Ah thank you d-link. I had issues with PS3 and also seagate goflex tv not listing in any sensible order. Also sometimes when you have a space i.e. TV Shows it puts a % in the space so TV%Shows. That only seems to happen when going back into a folder after being in a sub folder or but once it happens all folders get the same %. I usually refresh upnp at that point.

Problem solved.
Installed twonkymedia with fun_plug and now everything is ok. Much Much Much faster than the stock DLNA server and the folders show exactly as they should, but it costs about 15 Euros.
Fun_plug is very easy to install.

Thank you for the response D-Link, hopefully you can fix the issue for the next update. I also get the same thing as Hoppo1 in that files/folders with a space get a %20 inserted for some reason.

Have you seen the issue with the P2P hibernation? I have to leave the function disabled unfortunately, otherwise the fan and discs are always on, effectively shortening their life :(

Thanks!

I can confirm this issue and it should be addressed in the next firmware.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the response.

Which issue have you confirmed, the DLNA sort order or P2P hibernation?

Thanks!

Hi,

Unfortunately the 2.01 beta firmware fixes neither of these issues, were the changes pulled - or just not quite ready for this FW?

Thanks!

Not pulled but not implemented in first beta. Hopefully make the next cut.
