Hi guys from D-link,

I tested the DNS-320 for several days now and in general everythings  great by now.
I like the design and the somewhat cosy and clean Interface, especially the P2P
Download Capability.
But what bugs me is, that I can not copy selected Files from/to a HDD via the USB port.

Copying Data from/to USB Drive via my PC Is a very slow Process in that
a big deal of overhead is involved and my PC needs to be online during the whole copy process.
And Copying Data directly between the internal disks I am missing , too.

Will This features be added in the feature ?

Have you tried using "Web File Server" in applications. I believe that should do what you are looking for. I use it to transfer between disks in the nas but don't have anything connected to USB to be able to confirm 100% that it will work.

i have had usb connected before while viewing the web file server.. the server only show the root of HDD.. no usb

I tried the webb file server 2 times and it made my nas working but not anymore reacting, one time I had to even reset it at the back side reset button.

And like 0204, I couldnt see any usb drive

Too bad, as I would call a transfer option between the HDDs as most basic function... :/

which firmware are you using?

I'm used to try usb direct transfer from a pendrive or a external hdd, with no big issues, at firmware 2.0
In fact, the only problem i have is that it doesn't recognize one of my external hdd cases, but changed to another one and works fine. Every pendrive i have works as supposed, and i move then the files using the webexplorer from one hdd to other or to anoher location.

I am Using Firmware 2.0

I tried moving data over the web file app again and thats what happened :

A 500 KB File was transferred withing some seconds

A 10 MB File was transferred within some more seconds, after about half the time my
usb drive would stop blinking the Transfer-LED and it Toulk a Minute for the DNS to
stop moving this moving ring while tranferring the data and actualizing the app.

For a 300 MB File it Took me  mere 20 Miinutes (!). Again after half the time the USB Drive LED stopped blinking, then about 7 Minutes nothing and then the DNS started to access the USB Drive again, took some minutes for the colered ring ( of death) to go away.


Copying from usb is atm useless, as it Takes very long time for transferring minimum loads and the pc has to be turned on anyway, so I can connect the drive to the pc anyway with a much faster transfer rate.

My 500GB 2.5" usb drive doesn't show up in web explorer at all, but I can access it via samba.

The status log says it can't be shared with NFS, maybe that's part of the problem?

Firmware is 2.01, any ideas?

Actually it's possible to copy file to external drive connected to NAS USB port. The main requirement is it must be formatted in EXT2/3 format. This can be done via shell access after installing Fonz Fun-plug.

Yes, at least that is the case for NTFS formatted drive, current firmware only support NTFS in read-only mode. I have not test on drive formatted in FATx filesystem.

For indirect (thru network) transfer, do it via the normal method (ie. samba)

For direct (internal) transfer, open a shell session to the NAS and use copy (cp) or move (mv) command. If it's a huge transfer, submit it as a background job using the ampersand (&) and leave it to run without the need for PC to be on all the time.
