5GHz Band is not picking up any of my lap top computers.
« on: January 25, 2009, 09:26:33 PM »

I set up my router wireless settings for 2.4GHz Band and 5GHz Band and I save the settings. I'm trying to connect my XP and Vista computer to find my network name for 5GHz Band its not showing up I can only see 2.4GHz which is working fine. The only problem I'm having is I can't find my network for 5GHz Band, I've updated the router for the latest firmware and It won't help.

Any Idea regarding this issue? Thanks!

Are both SSID's the same or different for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands? Also what wireless adapters are you using?

Do the clients (laptops) support 5 Ghz band?

All of my computer is supported the 5Ghz and I set the wireless setting with different network name.
It only picks up 2.4GHz not the 5GHz which I want to use.

Your computers can do both bands.  Do you have that band set for N only in the router? Are those computers G only clients?

Sometimes the client software will pick up 2.4ghz before the 5ghz because the 2.4 has a much better signal.

Are the SSID's the same?

If you have Intel chipset, install the Intel  ProSet software. You can set specific 2.4 or 5 preference.

Just find the MAKE and MODEL of your wireless network card and look at the manufacturer's site for the specs?

Did you not just say your computers are compatible with the 5Ghz band? And now you ask how to check if they are?

5ghz not supported. guaranteed.

HP has some wireless adapters that of the N part "disabled." I had one laptop that could have came with a ABG_ adapter instead of the more useful ABGN version.  Even first level support of HP was confused.
