Iphone (1st generation) can't connect and don't see SSID
« on: July 09, 2011, 10:04:43 AM »

Very frustating.
I had a DI-524 for years and I had no problem.
My girlfriend wanted more range /speed for her netbook, and bought a DIR-655.
...
Had no problem with the netbook (acer One) and the Wii. But the Iphone 1st gen (cracked, but working good up to now) won't see any Wifi.

What to say. I have to read the F*  manual, I know.

But Geez.

"The high end" said the guy at the store.

I should have search the web a bit more before buying because this subject (iphone connect problem) is a popular topic.
The settings suggested in another thread (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=9893.0)won't change a thing.
The Iphone don't see the wifi network.

Hardware Version: B1     Firmware Version: 2.00NA

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA or WPA2.
Cipher type should be auto.

I have a 1st gen iphone too. They only work with G mode or below modes.

I use mixed n,g & b.
I tried G only, and rebooted the iphone, and still nothing. No SSID.

I set WPA-personal, and cypher cannot be auto. It is set to TKIP and AES.

Are there other WiFi routers in the area?

Have you changed the SSID name to something other than DLINK? Can be anything, something fun.
Try Single mode G with out any security to test and see if it connects.
Then try security WPA and TPIK only then TPIK and AES. It should connect

I found the problem!

The SSID is my daughter's name. My first language is french and I use accents and the name Valérie was just not valid on the Iphone.
I changed it to Valerie and then it showed up.

...I tried single g, no security, etc... Did a lot of trouble shooting when I realized the neighbor's secure  g SSID showed up from time to time, and for the first time I had an accent in the SSID...

By the way, I applied the advanced network settings as in the other thread (advanced wireless settings: beacon period: 75, RTS and Fragmentation: 2304).

Many thanks, FurryNutz!

Glad you found the problem. Kinda thought something with SSID might be the problem. Hope it works well for you.
