What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2 and AES only.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Did you ever get this working over 65mbps? I just got this router and am having the same issue. (RevB with current firmware)

I'm beginning to forget what all I've done but I think I was able to get 130mbps with no security. But when I enabled WPA-PSK-AES I'm only getting 65mbps?

And on my desktop that is on the 2nd floor (router is on the 1st) I wasn't even able to connect. Signal strength was really weak. But my old Linksys G router (blue and black model - OLD) was working fine? I was expecting the range to be way better on this Xtreme N router than my 6 year old Linksys.

I just downloaded a Wifi Analyzer app on my phone and am going to check the signal strengths between the two routers tonight.

Hi Celatid,

Did you buy matching Wireless Desktop adapters to match the Router you are using? A Salesperson, may say, it works, but does not guarantee a high-speed connection to the Router.

Install a matching Wireless Adapter on one of your computers and see what happens.

i wasn't ever able to get this to work properly, but in my adventure to find a router that works i've discovered what is most likely the culprit.

my old rev A router was draft N and it didn't have the "good neighbor policy" that prevents N routers from channel bonding if it sees another router in the area that is on one of the channels that your router would bond to. i had a neighbors router that was on channel 6 and even though the signal was so low at my router's location is still saw it and dropped my bonding. i've gotten the neighbor to change his channel to 1 but it's still not letting me bond properly. right now i've got a netgear N750 and am to the point of giving up and using DD-WRT. it's a firmware that is produced by a group of programmers for multiple router makes and models, one of the features is that you can disable the good neighbor policy and it will bond properly regardless.

now in your case, if you can bond with no encryption but it gets slow when you enable it then it sounds like you are using the wrong encryption type, you have to use WPA2 with N clients.

Hi,

Forgive for asking this but....  Are you using 65m as in meters (distance) ? OR as in MegaBits Per Second (data speeds) ?

I just have not seen the use of "65" for a speed rating myself.

My iPhone 3GS and my kids ipod touchs all use .11G (54 Mbps max) for wifi....

Just curious....

The same here,
The good neighbor policy on the DIR_655 is very bad for me, maybe nice for the neighbors.
Before i have a DIR-635  with 10/100 lan the wireless working very fast.
Now with the DIR-655 it is very bad 65 mbps i have a internet connection 120 mbit and the fastest i get wireless is around 60 mbit.
My old router i'm getting around 80~90 mbit it's the max for the wan side. So it was a lot faster.  Thank you d-link!!!
I going to use my old one and trow this one away if there is no solution for the slow wireless. :(

Make sure your N wireless is using 40
Mhz not 20 (two channels not single)..

Since you are saying you are getting only
about half of your ISP speed on wireless,
that would be my guess...

I have my 655 set for 40 with several others
nearby and it holds 40 no problem.

I used one of those wifi sniffer tools to
Choose my wifi channels on less use channels
like 3 & 7.... That seemed to help keep
mine at 40 mhz with no neighbor issues.

Hi Vespa,

You are not going to be getting 300 Mbps connection if viewed from the Router, if not a D-link Wireless Adapter that works with the DIR-655 Router.

With that said, these are the settings for the D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Tab.

Choose your 802.11 Mode, that includes 802.11n.

Uncheck Enable Auto Channel Scan.
Pick Wireless Channel 11. (For me, that produces the highest speed.)
Transmission Rate: Best (automatic)
Channel Width: Auto 20/40 Mhz

Security Mode: WPA-Personal
WPA Mode: WPA2 Only
Cipher Type : AES
Group Key Update Interval : 3600 seconds

Through trial and error (2-weeks) I discovered that the above same settings posted by "thecreator" resolved my connection and speed issues (300mbps), but ONLY after I dumped my PCE N13, ASUS(N) adapter and installed the compatible D-Link, DWA-556 adapter.

Post Script *Throw in an Extender-DAP-1360 and now you've got real setup issues  ;)

Wonder what the Asus NIC was doing that messed up your wireless LAN ?
