Yet another connection problem
« on: July 24, 2011, 10:56:07 PM »

So about a week ago, my rev. B1 router was running the 2.01NA firmware, and having wireless problems... i upgraded the firmware to 2.03NA, and it worked flawlessly. Then i decided to alter the TCP endpoint... I changed it from Address and Port restricted to just address restricted. and then once again, it decided to refuse to work properly. Wireless range is horrible, and our phones and iPods lose connection more than 10 feet away. Yet for some reason our computers are still able to connect properly from further away and run fine.

Basically, I'm back to the original problem I was having on 2.01NA.

I've tried setting the endpoints to independent, tried no security, tried shutting off advanced DNS service, flashed the firmware back to 2.00NA, and tried upgrading to 2.01 then 2.03 to no avail. I've also set up DHCP Reservations for everything, and disabled UPnP.

I'm thinking that the router itself is bad. (still under warranty, but really would rather not be internet-less for 2 weeks)

I need some sort of solution. Thanks

Edit: Its revision B1, not B2

In addition, the stupid product registration NEVER sends me an email.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2 and Cipher type to AES only if your device support this.

Any other wifi routers near by. Might use InSSIDer and see if there is a better channel open for use as well.
Any cordless house phones?

Cordless phone on the other side of the desk, never caused any problems.

And ran inSSIDer, my signals were the strongest, on channels with minimal to no traffic.
InSSIDer also caused my upstairs computers (My main computer) internet to drop to nothing.

Update: Turned off QoS, that did nothing.

Changed wifi mode to G only, and it works... even on the other side of the house, Fine (where i could not get anything to load). At least for the time being.

Possible something is interfering or not set up right. I would for a test, turn off ALL wireless and cordless devices, even wired PCs. Test with just one wireless PC connected. Then try one wired PC.

InSSIDer shouldn't make ANY devices go off line.

Well, no matter what the problems are, the one wired computer we have hooked up to it has always had flawless net.
But when I get home I will try what you said.

Okay. I haven't had the chance to do what you said... yet. But, I set the wireless mode to Mixed G & N, and our portable devices would not have any sort of internet connection, but would recognize the router.
In addition, my computer upstairs connects to it, and says its at 300mbps, yet the speed is a snails pace, if even that, even when just trying to access the router setup.

So so far, the only thing that works is having the mode set to only G, which my phone and ipod (would always drop connection otherwise), as far as i can inside the house, connects automatically and the internet works fine...

Hmmm...well...possible that you need to test out a different router...possible this one could be bad.
Might have a look at your router settings via teamviewer if interested.
