SharePort lives again....
« on: July 29, 2011, 02:19:25 PM »

Hi,

Just an update....  I had removed SharePort a while back because my main PC, Windows 7 Pro, x64 was just having fits about using SharePort, I wasted all kinds of apper from messed up printouts and such....  I posted here and on the SharePort forums for a long time....

Update...  Last Week I decided to do a slash and burn reformat of my system....Deleted the partition, recreated it and everything....then reinstalled Win7 from scratch....

Along with that I had gotten crazed because my USB Print server isn't able to return ink levels to my PC so I am constantly guessing about inks,   which isnt a HUGE deal, but is rather annoying....  SHarePOrt, odddly, when it was working , did return ink level data to my pc....

So after I had my freshly formatted system fully updated from MS, and everything else installed... I went and downloaded a fresh copy of SHarePort v3 for the DIR-655.....installed it fine....ONLY, this time it is working fine once more.

I have the most recent firmware for my A version 655.....it has been pretty stable I would say.  I have no idea what has changed with SharePort working again, except tp think that maybe my previous Win7 system was corrupted in some vague manner that interferred with SharePort (and a few other programs in odd ways) but was in no way easily determined....

I have reinstalled SharePort on a couple other of my home systems, and they also are working fine once more...

Sammydad1,

Although it's been over a year since you posted this, can you possibly tell me where to find v3 of SharePort for an A4 DIR-655?  Also, what version of firmware might you be running?

Thanks,

MJ

Re: SharePort lives again....issues with Mac OS X 10.8.1
« Reply #3 on: August 23, 2012, 07:23:42 PM »

Dir-655
HW Version: B-1
Firmware Version: 2.00NA
SharePort Version:  4.2.0R1 (SXUPTP Driver: 1.9.0)
Model: SX-Virtual USB

Router setup to use USB Shareport

External Harddrive: GoFlex 2TB 3.0 USB drive

Now for the issues, hopefully covered all of the details with my system.
I picked up a 2TB GoFlex drive to work with TimeMachine on new MacBook Pro Retina, with Mountain Lion 10.8.1.  When connecting the drive directly to the MBP, TimeMachine works flawlessly.

Installed SharePort Plus on MBP (versoin 4.2.0R1) and am able to connect to the drive as you can see in the SharePort app:

The frustrating part, I can not see the drive in Finder, now see any of the Directories.  As a result, TimeMachine can not back up to the drive.  I'm sure I am missing something pretty basic, but have spent way too many hours scouring the message boards, Google and the Support section of Dlink.com.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I believe it should mount a drive icon on the desktop.

Drive will only show on your Desktop if Finder can see it.  Since Finder can not find the drive, it will never show the mount.

I might presume something in OSX is preventing Finder from seeing it.
What OSX version are you running?
Both 10.6 and 10.7 see my drive when I have it connected. I haven't had a chance to test 10.8 yet.  ::)

Mountain Lion 10.8.1

I have another MBP running Lion, 10.7.6, I'll fire it up and see if it Finder can see the drive or not.

In the meantime, I have plugged the 2TB USB drive into one of my 2TB NAS drives, and Finder sees it just fine; this was on the new MBP with 10.8.1

Looks like Shareport Version 4.2.0R1 (SXUPTP Driver: 1.9.0) is not compatible with Mountain Lion 10.8.x.

I was able to see and access the Shareport Drive on my older generation MBP running Lion 10.7.x w/o any issues.  Shareport Version 4.2.0R1 (SXUPTP Driver: 1.9.0).

Where does one submit an issue report for compatibility issues with Mountain Lion 10.8.x and Shareport?

I did see the recent posting regarding Beta 2.08 firmware version that supposedly fixed a Shareport issues in 2.07, however I never upgraded the Firmware version, so definitely an issue with 10.8.x and 4.2.0R1 (SXUPTP Driver: 1.9.0).

Thanks for the continued help Furry!

10.8 is new, i would expect SP not to work on it since it new and seems to be a new platform and has a new development platform in which developers need to be appart and approved by Apple. I noticed this when I tried to install a weather app the other day. 10.8 said it was not approved by Apple, yet it runs on 10.6 and 10.7. So things have changed some in 10.8. I would give it some time and be patient while Dlink updates there drivers and software to work better with 10.8. Ill fowatd this to Dlink so they know, if they don't already.

I brought out the 655 w v2.07NA loaded today and connected my 2Tb WD USB drive to it and tried OSX 10.8.1. I saw the correct name of the drive however it kept repeating that there was an error connecting to the drive. SP window said it was connected but it wouldn't actually connect. I tested OSX 10.6.8 and I was able to connect correctly and the drive icon was mounted on the desktop.

I have sent this to DLink. Will just have to wait for SP to be updated for OSX 10.8. Hopefully soon.
