Internet is disconnecting and reconnecting

DIR-655 D-link router

My internet connection with 3 computer was gong strong for three years until this week.

About every twenty minutes, the connection drops for someone and reconnects in 20 seconds.


I am getting this message in the browser.

I unplugged the router and modem, and then reconnected them.

Same problem.


Going into Windows Network Connections and disconecting from the network, then reconnecting seems to temporarily solve the problem.

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2. Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.
Ensure cables between ISP Modem and router are in good working condition. Swap them out and test.

When I reboot the computer, the problem is solved for another day.

Does this indicate I have an issue with the computer and not the router?

For the past year I have just been putting my computer into hibernate and had no problems.

I would try this as see:

"could" be a failing NIC on one of the computers flooding the LAN with crap data.... Try shutting each PC off for a while and see if the other PC's clear up their disconnects....

If not, move on to the next PC....

Could also be that your router is failing....might need to be replaced....

Have you done a factory reset on the router and re-set it up from scratch ?

I have my router in vertical orientation....is yours flat or vertical ?

I would say it's your Antivirus. You have Chrome right? Try disabling your AV for a day and see if it continues.  Also try deleting your temp files in chrome.
