Hey all,

Hardcore multi-platform (love the mac the most) all around geek here! I can vouch for the problems being experienced with the v1.31 firmware update, and the v1.01 MacShare Utility on both Tiger & Leopard. Hopefully we will get enough posts here in the forum to warrant bringing some good change about to correct these issues.

Currently, my most stable 655 is running v1.21. My other 655 that was upgraded and tested with v1.31 sits in the corner in shame, turned away so as not to face me, as I may get angry and smash it's now useless v1.31 a** with a hammer! 


For now, my 655 with v1.21 works solid, and wait's patiently for D-Link to save its outcast brother (v1.31 in the corner) from destruction.

Updated Firmware to 1.31NA final on May 1.

Here is where my issue stands as of 1:54 MTN today.
Everything was done while connected to the 655 via wireless connection:
Did fresh install of "ShareportUtility/ShareportUtility/ShareportUtility_10_4.mpkg" as FatMan suggested was the functional pkg.
Did fresh install of printer Samsung ML 1210 Laser via USB hub directly connected to MacBook Pro Intel and tested printing = Total Success.

Attached USB self-powered hub to 655 and set Shareport to connect on print, sent same small file to printer = Shareport connected, file printed, and printer Window stayed at the 'sending data' status.
In other words, even though the print job was finished, the Mac and Shareport did not recognize this fact and left the dialogue open. Since I was sitting beside the printer etc., I did a manual Shareport dis-connect from printer and everything was happy - except this is not good if one is elsewhere in the house with the Mac on wireless connection which is 99.9% of the time.
So, still plodding along with some joy but still not grinning happily.

Anyway, it's also nice to have fellow Mac users who are from the same planet and can discuss our successes and failures from a common point of view.

I have had my problems in the past firmware updates but with the 1.22b and 1.31 I have been inordinately fortunate--especially so with the last. I know others have not. I have ''tinkered to death'' all sorts of settings and have come to some sort of status quo. I typically back up my settings and update the firmware, then have to re-import the saved settings and all has been well.

SharePort has, however, been almost but not exactly. I wish I had a printer model that was actually supported but I do so little printing anymore I have no use for a new one. I can only speak from the Sony USB thumb drive experience I mentioned in an earlier post.

One thing I would heartily suggest, by the way--as far as attached media via the 655 is to format it as NTFS and then get the NTFS-3G (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10913782) System Preference from VersionTracker. It allows you to function on a mixed network of Wins/Macs quite well--and for asthetics sake, your dive won't have to have a name in all capital letters.

As for the specific trial-and-error suggestions for setting the DIR-655 A3 (my model) with various newer firmwares since 1.21 I'd be glad to share if asked. I'm on a PPPoE/Verizon DSL setup with a Westell WireSpeed Dual Connect modem, so obviously those play a factor. I put the modem in bridge mode and deal only with the 655.

Anyway, that's it for now. Oh, stay away from enabling WISH.

When I enable WISH in my configuration it drastically slows down web page resolution (not sure if that's the right word - maybe web page loading is better). It sounded like a good idea and perhaps it should work in theory, but practically it seems to eventually slow things down and when I turn it off, things speed back up to spec.

2) Although blunt, EddieZ is one of the most informed people and has a for realistic view of IT and the industry as a whole. He can be a very useful resource for information. If you feel his sarcasm is offensive, ask him to refrain and I'm sure he will....

Seriously, though, I am still concerned about a firm working version of shareport on the 655 using Macs - the easy solution is to buy Time Capsule, or Airport Extreme with an added HD, but I love competition, and am very happy with D-Link gear. BUT the only route I have right now is to update to 1.3* and maybe brick my router, since with the "official" newest FW version in Germany, all is good except my wireless printer takes 20 seconds to react to a print command.
So it would be great when we have a certified European version released to the EU sites that, in general, works with Macs as well. (And, yes, I understand that the EU version is normally the USA version with more languages, but I still don't see the 1.22, that was a beta, being offered here officially, so why is it still frequently suggested as a solution, even if multilingual 1.3* is not ready !)
P.S. and my setup is very boring - no bit torrent-steal-everything-for-free-unless-you-really-use-it-for-business, no VOIP, just Cable that gives internet/phone/TV

OK everyone, What's up! Having problems with the shareport utility here... Everytime my external hd connects, there is an error. Afterwards, it says it is connected but I cannot find the hd in finder. I might try to reinstall shareport and get back to you all... or should I flash my router to firmware 1.21?

Hi - afraid there is no turning back - you cannot downgrade below 1.30 - there are some other threads in this Forum that cover the technical reasons why. And it does not seem that the shareport utility works for all Mac users.
