I need major help connecting My Bigfoot Network Killer 2100 gaming Card. Does anyone know of any compadibility issues between this card and the Dir-655 Router? For some reason i continuosly have problems with this card and router. However when i connect using my on board network card there is no problems. I bought this Killer 2100 with my new Pc build to improve my multiplayer gaming experience however it doesnt seem to work consistently or takes a half hour to connect. Does anyone have the same card and router? If so can you explain to me how you have it set up so it works consistently. Thanks for your time in Advance.    Also I'd like to get everyone's input on what are the current top 5 Wireless gaming routers available today?  Just in case i need to upgrade.

Hi,

This is STRICTLY my opinion....  But not being a hard core gamer, I haven't seen the logic in buying one of these super hyped gaming NICs.... You are functionally limited by several factors such as the Ethernet standards as set by the IEEE.... 802.11 and such....  Not to mention that Windows 7 RWIN setting is not changeable as it was in XP....

The DIR-655 already comes with four GigaBit wired ports and .11N wireless at 300Mbps MAX.....

If you are using good ethernet cables and a GigaBit NIC (or two) on your motherboard.... then why spend the extra money on something that is inherently confined by extremely well establish industry standards....

Its kind of like choosing to run Premium gas in a card that runs perfectly well on regular gas....

What does that Gaming Adapter offer for its cash outlay that surpasses normal GigaBit cards  ?

Just curious...am Not a hater....

         Fyi: Everything is hardwired and all my wires are Cast5e. In fact when i first got it it worked for a little while then just stopped working @ 1Gbit. I can from time to time get it to connect if i leave it to reset itslef for a alf hour or so.  It will connect more frequently @ 100 Mbps that also is after letting it reset over and over. I cant figure it out, my connection is fast enough otherwise it would never have worked to begin with and my onboard wouldnt work now @ 1 gbit now. Anyhow thanks for the feed back.

I'll second the opinion that the hype around those high-end netwok cards is just hype.  Especially when you are connecting to a 10Meg line from your ISP.  Don't want to rain on your parade but if you spent a lot of money on the card I would see if you can get a refund, you will notice very little difference gaming on that vs. an onboard NIC.  Check out some reviews on other hardware review sites, most say that the cost of the card doesn't justify it.

The Killer App Blocker software sounds interesting.
I have had any number of times when I would like to
focus on the task at hand, and stuff opens up and
steals focus and my typing ends up in the wrong window.

Conceptually I get their idea...IF it really works, it could
be worthwhile for the right user... Not unlike a graphics
card over the old integrated video chips.

But is there enough network overhead etc... to justify the price
difference vs a basic Gb NIC...
