bit of a pickle here, but i'm not that network savvy a guy.

I'm looking to transfer files from my computer harddrive to my ACER NAS... when i drag and drop will my laptop is wired to my DLINK, I got a nifty 56 mbps transfer rate.. on wireless, however, it was closer to 4-6 mbps.. from what i've been told, it should be 20 mbps minimum.. i'm running 1.35A latest firmware on my DLINK.. could this be an issue with my onboard wireless adapter on my HP laptop?  Sucks to transfer at such slow speeds!!  my ACER NAS is also wired directly into the router.

what kind of wireless netwerkcard is in the acer? 54MBit one or 300Mbit one.

Not sure if this is your wireless or not. I would check the device manager properties and look under the properties for the wireless card.

It should say 802.11 A/B/ maybe G and maybe N. If it has at least G then you should see speeds around 5-15 maybe 20. The seeds you are getting are pretty good.

Just be aware that wireless xfer speeds depend on many things to work well, signal strength, quality and noise levels. External and environmental conditions and interferrence can and will effect wireless. Just the nature of the beast. Even on a single N mode at 5Ghz router on my Mac book pro I mainly see 20Mbs.

Just need to find out what your actual wireless card supports.

My general experiences with wireless over the years is that the best "Real World" transfer speeds seem to be about 1/3 of the adevertised mathematical speeds....

So an "ideal" .11N would be good if it got near 100 Mbps "Real World"  The Router may say its connected at 300, but actual data transfers will not hit 300....

Highest I have seen at 2.4 N was 67Mb down. That's perfect signal, point blank range. Usually I see about 15-17 with G, and 20-25 with N.

Unless marketing stops messing with the technical things, we'll never see real world xfer speeds as connection speeds. Just the way things are.  We only wish.
