Remote backup task endless
« on: August 20, 2011, 11:53:30 AM »

Has anyone got the remote backup feature working who can offer some advice?

I'm trying to backup my 320 to another linux based NAS (Thecus N4100PRO) but when it start to make the backup (with configured task) on interface i can see the status as "Backup now:0%" and in the bottom of frame i can see "processing please wait" but it stay like this forever.... but the files (20MB files made for test) that i wanted to backup was created on target (N4100PRO)

Also need to ask why when i configure the task settings i do no have the incremental or differential select options?

Sorry my english and im a very rookie with this nas stuff.

Thanks

You might try deleting the scheduled task completely and adding it back by creating a NEW remote back up task.  I'm not certain, but I know that MODIFY doesn't quite work properly at least with Network Shares tasks so I wonder if that's the same case with the remote back up task list.  Have you modified the task at all?  Also, try checking "Ignore Existing Files."  Be careful with this option as I have had the target volume wiped clean without my consent by not checking it.

It is a slow process, but 20 MB shouldn't take that long.  I remotely back up 4.88 GB of data on a daily basis, and I estimate it takes about 12+ hours on a DSL line with 50-60 KB/s upload speed.

Hi Guys,

Still with the problem...  I bought a second DNS-320 and gonfigure as Target (DNS-320 to DNS-320). Nothing different.

All disk reformatted... new task... nothing different... endless process and "remote backups" with "Backup Now:0%"  forever. I did see created the files on target DNS-320.

Im about to return the two NAS and migrate to other brand... Can not be that i have this problem with same type of NAS on source and target. Im doing anything wrong?

PLEASE HELP... anyone from Dlink support here?

You have read the manual I assume.  My reading of it,and application, is that local backups are FROM somewhere TO the DNS-320 - not the DNS-320 to somewhere else.

Now you have two DNS-320 try setting the second to do a local backup of the first and you should find it works.  In fact that is how I backup my DNS-323 to my DNS-320.

Hello Ivan ...

What you say is true. Tried the local backup option and work fine (DNS to DNS) thanks for the advice, however, my goal is to make the backup from the DNS-320 to Thecus 4100Pro. The Thecus has no backing up option from another NAS Opción unless rsync and I have no idea of programming in linux to make a rconfig file and others stuff related to this.

But...... i have a new BIG problem... before read your post... i made test with remote backup option from new DNS to first DNS (where im having all my files in one folder named "Time files") .... well same old poblem (unless process). To terminate that unless processes i did delete the task, after that, went to the DNS and i see that my old folders was no there!!!!

What happened??? what can i do to recover that folders and files?

This is my new priority problem... i did not backed up that folder.

thanks for your advices
