« on: August 22, 2011, 06:15:17 PM »

Please help. I'm completely new to this. My problem is that after configuring my router's settings. I can't go to any websites other than the configuration page. I'm completely frustrated for days. Help would be appreciated.

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2 and Cipher type to AES only if your device support this.

Two things I see is you have a DNS of Rogers ISP, so I assume thats you ISP. Why are you using that as static though and not going through router? Also, not sure if IP routing needs to be on. Mine is set to Hybrid.

Okay, thanks for the reply. The problem is the DNS. Whenever I try to connect to another website other than the D-Link Configuration page, it says I can't connect due to DNS Setup or something like that. I have a good connection, but can't access any websites. I'll post my info after.

Looks like a issue with your DNS server then. 64.71.255.198 looks dead to me. Call your ISP and ask them what you should be using.

Do you have DNS relay enabled? If not try that as you are not showing the router's IP in your DNS Server listing from the ipconfig.

I recommend using ISP DNS addresses in the Setup/Internet/Manual section first. Once you can get it going then switch to other DNS or OpenDNS or DynDNS options later on.  ;)

Well the problem was he was trying to use a DNS server that wasn't working. Googled it and its one that has a history of problems. Pinged it and threw a couple of A record requests at it, nothing.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to fix this sometime this week.
