How come some connect, some don't
« on: September 12, 2011, 10:48:51 AM »

It's seems like this is a game of roulette. I have three DCS-932L using UPNP and the router is setup for it also.  All three cameras have a green check.  Using myDlink outside the house is a gamble, sometimes they can connect to the video, sometimes they cannot.  One that is connecting early in the day, won't later, but will again tomorrow.

While inside the house, connecting is no problem. Through my Dlink or not, they stream just fine so it is not a wireless connectivity issue.  They also work for motion sensing via email and schedule snapshot via email.  There is nothing else connected to this router when I am not there.  Only three wireless cameras.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Are you sure the signal is strong enough to maintain a persistent signal outside? If so, how have you validated this conclusion?

. . .One that is connecting early in the day, won't later, but will again tomorrow.

Does the temperature get very hot outside? Is the camera in the sun? Overheating can cause problems.
Excessively hot temperatures can explain the camera working in the morning and failing later in the day.

Sorry, I'm not standing outside the house with a laptop.  I'm at a remote location with wired broadband using Mydlink to try and connect to the cameras.  I have tested inside the house with no issues.

All three cameras are inside the house.  None are mounted outdoors.

So when you say inside/outside your house, you're referring to viewing the cameras on your LAN versus mydlink?

Inside the house I am on the local LAN.  Outside the house I am at a remote location on the internet.  In each case though I am using mydlink.com to view the cameras.

My initial thoughts are a potential bandwidth issue if you are accessing multiple streams simultaneously, especially over a wireless connection. As a test, you can try minimizing the image size and FPS. To further reduce bandwidth during this test you can set all of the cameras to night mode so the images stream in black and white.

Hi.  Does someone have a copy of mydlink lite ver. 1.2 for Android they wouldnt mind emailing me? Or link me to a download of it.  I cannot deal with the constant 5 second disconnect times with the update to 2.0 on Android devices.

Thank you.

It absolutely did.  About 6 Android devices are up and working again.  Why doesnt Dlink test these firmware upgrades a little more thoroughly before releasing?  If going back to the older versions, make sure that your Market is not set to update this App automatically, or you will be right back to square one with an update to Ver. 2.0.  Thanks again JL for the link...

I also placed the link to version 1.2 of the Android app as a sticky at the top of this board.

We were able to upgrade now to Ver 2.1 on all of our Android phones, and it is now operating stable.

It seems Dlink must have fixed some problem somewhere....hhhmmmmm.... :)
