Why my DNS-320 wakes up so often?
« on: September 20, 2011, 02:38:12 AM »

Hi, I have this annoying problem:

hard disks in the DNS-320 wake up every now and then even I'm not trying to access any data on them.

I've noticed that this occur when a pc of the lan wakes up from standby or when I open context menu with right mouse button.

In the log I see : CIFS: Authentication for user [xxxxxxxxx] has FAILED. What does that mean?

thank you

Do the PCs on your LAN contain network map(s) to the DNS-320? If so, the PCs are likely iterating through each networked shortcut/map to validate the links.  Not sure about the error log though.

Hi, do you mean my dns-320 mapped as network drive in "my computer"? I don't have any link to the nas, I access hard disk only via ftp.

Is your PC running Windows 7? My thinking is that although you may not have directly mapped the NAS volume(s) on your PC, Windows 7 may be searching your network for other devices, causing the NAS to come to life.

yes I have windows 7 on both the pcs. I disabled LLTD (network map on vista/7) and seems fine now.
