Afternoon everyone,

Have had this DNS 343 for almost 2 years and have never really ever gotten it to work properly.

I've never really had consistent speeds when it was actually tranferring data without timeouts. At best I can get around 5 mb/s, but mostly it churns at around 121kb/s, and times out very frequently (every 2 minutes or so).

I've update firmware to the 1.05 beta. I have a DNS 655 with 1.36c FW as my router and the DNS 343 sits right on it, as is the 3 windows 7 machines that I am trying to use it on. This is my 4th router BTW, all the others have had issues with this NAS. I've gone through Linksys, Belkin, Fry's, and now this Dlink. It is consistently crap with all of them as well as with all three of my windows 7 machines. Each of those are homebuilt, with various NICs that have up-to-date drivers.

I have my DNS 343 set up with 4k jumbos, FTP server, and using both FTP and regular file transfers it timesout consistently.

Transfer speeds aside, I am at a point where I am trying to back up the 4 TB that I managed to squeeze on to this thing (painfully) over the past 2 years and I'm finding that after 4 day's of reset connections on the FTP server, that I simply don't have the patience anymore to pull it off.

So, kinda looking for a hand here.

There are two important pieces of additional information you'll need to provide for the member community to help you out:

(1) How are the HDDs configured (i.e. Standard Volumes, RAID 1, etc.)?
(2) Are the HDDs advanced format disks?

4 Hitachi 1TB drives set on a Raid 0 (single volume). Auto-build is disabled.
As far as I know these are regular 3.0 Gb/s Sata drives. Nothing special about them. They were on the Dlink "OK" lists when I bought both together.

Net Access is set:
NFS server disabled, SMB - All user R/W access, with Oplocks on, no mapped archives
FTP server is on, R/W access all users
UPnP AV server is disabled
LLTD is Enabled (I've toggled this thing so many times...On seems better than off)

Ohh yes, heres another one. Once timed out, it cannot establish another connection without logging in as another user.

Same issues trying to transfer from FTP or directly from my Mac (both wired and wireless) as well.

Its not the router, nor any of my NICs.

Thought this may be of help as well....

Whilst timing out on both my PC doing a regular file to file transfer, and on my Mac (at the same time) via FTP, I could log into the DNS 343 web interface without any issues via IP and server share.

The device is there, it can be ping flooded for hours without timeouts, yet on transfers I get timeouts.

What is the average throughput on your Windows 7 boxes using normal folder-to-folder transfers (i.e. drag/drop)?

Avg is 28 kb. I can get around 2.5mb/s for the first few seconds, then it drops significantly to 150kb for a time, then drops out to 20kb. until it finally times out.

It seems like it times out more on larger files than single small files.

This is what I see every 30 seconds to 5 minutes, randomly. Yet when I'm actively refreshing my web interface with the same IP/Server_name, it finds it instantly (no timeout).

Do you experience the same symptoms/numbers on your Mac? There is a known Windows 7 issues that impacts throughput on some users. I have a Windows 7 box that experiences intermittent throughput issues (although low for me is ~5 Mbps) that are corrected following a reboot of the PC. I've read issues by recounted by other Windows 7 users who experienced KB throughput due to the same issue.

Same on the Mac, though I have not tried setting up the DNS as an NFS Server yet.

I have doubts that this is "the" issue you are faced with since you have 3 Windows 7 boxes experiencing the same behavior. This Windows 7 issue is not universal, so the odds slim at best that you have the same issue on all three machines.

Really disappointed in D-Link. Its been 2 weeks and not a single company support person can 'support' their own forums.

What is the point of having them if we are relying on other users feedback? Especially when those users are as clueless about what is going on as the ones with the problems?

D-Link support is not absent on this forum. The forum support you are referring to spend the better amount of their time on the newer D-Link product line boards. To D-Link's credit, the DNS-343 board was well covered for the first 3 years of the product's life.
