3TB Drives in NAS 320
« on: November 01, 2011, 05:34:29 AM »

I just bought the D-Link 320 and installed 2 new Seagate 3TB SATA drives. (Seagate ST33000651AS Barracuda XT Hard Drive - 3TB, 3.5", SATA 6Gbps, 7200 RPM, 64MB) I know that if I were to install the drives in a PC, that I would have to download a special program (DiscWizard) to format the drives since my 5 year old computer's BIOS does not recognize the drives. Does anyone know how to mount and format the drives as network storage devices and be able to see the full 3TB and set them up as mirrored drives? I am a little nervous about doing this proceedure because of the high failure rate of 3TB drives. But I bought these drives because they got good reviews on my suppliers site. I need to get these drives up and running because I need to back up my main computer so I can rebuild it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,
I am not sure about the Seagate drives but, the only firmware which worked for my Hitachi 3TB drives was 2.02 beta, which has been withdrawn by Dlink, due to some issues including not being able to downgrade the firmware.  So, I am afraid you are stuck waiting for the next beta to see if that will work or figure some other way to get your computer backed up.  Sorry.
