Seriously? Another FTP issue
« on: November 08, 2011, 09:34:32 AM »

when trying to connect via filezilla this is what i get:

Status:   Resolving address of xxxxx.dyndns.biz
Status:   Connecting to xx.xxx.xxx.xx:21...
Status:   Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response:   220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ----------
Response:   220-You are user number 1 of 3 allowed.
Response:   220-Local time is now 11:10. Server port: 21.
Response:   220 You will be disconnected after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Command:   USER xxx
Error:   Could not connect to server

it's seeing the NAS and seems to connect.  can't figure out why it won't even allow me to enter password.

Also, this is what I get via command ftp:

C:\Users\user>ftp
ftp> open xxxxxx.dyndns.biz
Connected to xxxxxxx.dyndns.biz.
220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 3 allowed.
220-Local time is now 11:21. Server port: 21.
220 You will be disconnected after 10 minutes of inactivity.
User (xxxxxxxx.dyndns.biz:(none)): xxx
Connection closed by remote host
ftp>

Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I am pretty sure you know far more than me regarding ftp, but since there have been no responses to your question, I would ask a few questions to maybe help determine where the difficulty lies.  First, when you enabled the ftp function on the 320 did you leave the default settings or make any changes.  You might try the default first.  Next, have you tried to access the 320 via Internet Explorer or if you use Firefox, have you tried Fireftp addin?  If so, can you connect both from within your network and from an outside / remote location.  These are some of the simplest and least complex methods to log into an ftp server and both work well with accessing my 320.  If you cannot access the 320 from within the local network, it would be either the 320 or perhaps the network settings.  If you can reach it locally, but not externally, then if would point to either the router, or maybe the settings in Filezilla.  That's about all I can think of right now.  Good luck.

Thanks for the reply

I spent almost 3hrs on the phone yesterday with Level 1 support.  Poor kid couldn't understand why I had the ports forwarded in "virtual server" section.

I have disabled the forced SSL & it seems to be working okay now.  Ftp is legacy however, it still serves a purpose for me...I just can't understand why this isn't seamless with their equipment.

Now i'm off to see what else doesn't work...currently it's AjaXplorer.
