Network drive shuts down router
« on: November 10, 2011, 05:53:08 PM »

Hello,
I have the Dlink DIR 615 router, windows 7, and this morning, it suddenly started to shutdown and restart, over and over.  I unplugged all ethernet connections, shut down, etc. and slowly added the PC, then the phone, until when I plugged in the Western Digital 2TB My Book live, it would begin the same restart process. I can now repeat the issue by unplugging, and replugging the drive.
I have had the network drive for about 3 months, and this started today.
I have ver E3 fw ver 5.10
Any info would be greatly appreciated
thanks

I guess that the reason is your network being attacked. Please double check below.
http://www.support.dlink.com/emulators/dir615_revE/510/adv_dmz.htm
1.   Please, check ‘Enable SPI’.
2.   Please, check ‘Enable anti-spoof checking’.

1.   Please, Uncheck ‘Enable UPNP’.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.

Lets leave Enable uPnP enabled for now until we can troubleshoot this a bit more. Let us know.

Hi Thanks for responding,
This morning the same issue started happening without the network drive, only the PC ethernet connection.  After phone call to dlink support, etc.  I just decided to replace the router.  (which is working fine after intall and about an hour...)

I know,
I know this-crazy-situation caused I had experienced.

Your router does it support IP version 6? Please check it first.

Please check your around who use the vista OS/ win7 OS with enabled IP version 6.
If you have guys your around with using IP ver6, you should disable IP ver6 that computer or devices.
It comes from your ISP(Internet service provider) with did not support IP version 6 router.
So, you should talk to your ISP this issue.
The key is disabling IP version 6.
It will be issued if the PC power was off.
Your  neighborhood may use the vista with enabled IP version 6.
The ISP could solve this issue.
Talk to ISP.  it's easy.

The crazy expressing is the joke and this is real solution.  ;D

Waaaa? Very few ISP's even offer IPv6 functionality and no one I know of supports it. Also...this router is the default one given for my ISP, who does not support IPv6, so this isn't a compatibility issue. Also..how does a neighborhood use a specific OS? You completely lost me. ::scratch head::

It could be a IPv6 issue. Sounds similar to this post. so maybe MS released a update for certain NIC driver that is causing the issue? Try rolling back your driver, make sure you backup and create a restore point first though.
