Having other WiFi near by can effect. AN open channel should work ok though. Might get congestion too.
Cordless phones will impact connectivity if operating near or on 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.

One of my neighbours has a cheap belkin router and has no problems the wifi coverage around his house. His router is downstairs, his son has his xbox and laptop upstairs and the daughter has a laptop that she uses up and downstairs, all connect with good or very strong signals.

I can pick there wifi network up in my house and get a good signal, never tried it the other way round to see if I can pick my network up in there house.

So what's DAP?

would be a good test to see if you can take the 825 over and test it if he'll let you.

Did you click on the link?

DAP are access point device models by DLink. These act as wireless points to help extend or relay wireless ranges.

Didn't see the link, really must use my glasses more, seen it now, will have a look in a bit.

The guy at D-Link I spoke to suggested these  powerline DHP-W307AV

Don't think my neighbour would let me do that, but he would let me use my phone to scan for my network from with in his house. At least that would give me an idea of how far the signal from the 825 is going, if that makes sense.

Thanks mate. I did see the link for it once I had put my other eyes on. Is this wired to the router? if it is I have problems running cables around the house, new carpets, so don't want to be pulling them.

What do you think of the powerline DHP-W307AV

I think it can be used as a repeater. Might check the specs. I haven't been able to get my hands on one. I hoping for in the future. I have experienced a form of powerline and it seemed to work for general internet usage. Not sure about how well streaming or gaming on it is. Would work well for you I think.

I had a quick look at the repeater and as far as I can see most are from the USA. If you turn the router off, say at night, because of the brightness of the lights on the front panel, does the router loose it's settings?

I did this last night and this morning my phone can't find the network as I set it up, I changed the network name from dlink to something else.

I went into the web interface and the router had changed the network name from the one I put in back to the default dlink one, it also reverted the password. It also changed the security from WPA personal to none.

The router shouldn't loose settings if turned off.

I didn't think it should, but that's what it did. It reverted the network name, password and the security settings back to the default ones. Have re-entered them now, saved them and then went to Tools>system>reboot as the manual says, but not turned the router off and on again to see if the settings have stayed.

Have you saved the configuration to file yet?
Can you do this, then turn off, back and check for settings, then reload the configuration file if the settings are not saved?

This shouldn't loose settings. How long have you had this?

Have now saved the configuration to file, just in case. Have just turned it off and waited for about 10 mins. Restarted and it has remembered the settings. Will turn it off to night and on tomorrow morning and see what happens then.

Where did I buy it from, I'll give you one guess........................................ yep ebay, and guess what,..............................................the sellers not answering my emails, have opened a case through ebay because the sellers not replying to emails and the power supply was broken.

At the moment it seems to be working ok. Just one thing, If I turn off the 5ghz side do you think it would help improve the signal around the house?

cheers mate

I see.
Well I would get a new power supply from DLink if you can. That could be a problem if the PS isn't working well.
Keep us posted on the power cycles. Settings should be persistent thru them.

It's possible that single could increase. I do recommend modes and frequencies that are not used, turn them off. Recommend Single modes or mixed G and N modes on 2.4Ghz.

Keep us posted.

The new PS should be here tomorrow some time. Will give it ago with 5Ghz turned off, I guess it's a case of trial and error with these things.

Will let you know what happens when the router has been off over night, fingers crossed it will remember the settings.

Good news, turned the router off last night and have just turned it on this morning and it has retained it's settings. So happy with that.

I got a response from the  ebay seller this morning and they have agreed to a partial refund, so happy with that 2.

Good start to the day.
