Remote backup service and deltacopy
« on: November 26, 2011, 05:07:10 AM »

I enabled remote backup service and set password in dns-320 with 2.02 firmware.
I thought this enables rsync server and then you could for example backup files using deltacopy client.
But what is the username I need to use? I tested admin, root and my own username but none of these work. Am I missing something or have I misunderstood the behavior of remote backup service?

I've never used DeltaCopy, but here is the procedure for performing remote NAS to NAS backups using RSYNC.

So there is no way to initiate backup from client side? In your tutorial, which is great by the way, backup is initiated from the nas. If I want to backup data from laptop, this isn't very good solution.

Hi,
I took a look at DeltaCopy and if that doesn't work from a laptop to the NAS, you might check out "SyncBack", which has a freeware version, and which I am pretty certain will do exactly what you want.  Just Google it.  Good luck

I personally use SyncBack and will vouch for the product's functionality and flexibility. Great product. I believe the only difference between the free and pay version is the number of clients that can be backed up on the same LAN.

But what USERNAME should be used?  I'm trying to backup from a Thecus NAS and it requires me to use a username and password, the dlink only has a password field so I'm assuming the username is preconfigured.
