I don't know if this is the same problem, but with me, here's the deal:

I have some devices like Boxee Box and my cell phone (wireless connections) that doesn't connect again with router once I had disconnected them... like this: I turn on the Boxee Box and get wireless connection with router... if I turn off Boxee Box and try to reconnect with router, no success... I need to power cicle the router to get connection again... static IP doesn't solve the problem, nor even DHCP reservation....

Is this the same problem?

Sorry my terrible english... regards

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless

I don't know if this is the same problem, but with me, here's the deal:

Finally the network is back to boring. Nothing to do but use it.

I removed the external access point and using now the WiFi of the router. The problem disappeared.
I have no explanation to it but the boxes did not get along together.

Thank you guys for the help and the moral support.

I had an external (to the router) WiFi access point while the WiFi on the router was disabled.
I removed the external WiFi and enabled the router's one.

Apparently it solved the problem.

I think I am having the same issue. I have a Trendnet TEW-637AP wireless access point attached. The thing is, I have had this attached to my previous router (Linksys E1000 w/ DDWRT), and haven't experiencing problems. Reason why I kept the Trendnet AP attached was for legacy devices that don't support WPA2.

I would have the same issues... DHCP would failing assigning IP addresses, Wireless devices would refuse to connect, and my only choice was to reboot or power cycle the router.

I have removed the Trendnet device from the network, and will see if it works w/o a reboot or not.

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

Ok, the TRENDnet TEW-637AP has been OFF the network and off for a day, I thought things were going well until my PS Vita failed to obtain a DHCP address from the DIR-685. Removing the wifi connection setting and inserting the info again in the PSP did not fix it, still fails. I am testing my Nintendo 3DS, and it isn't getting an IP address either, failing out on the connection test.

Tech support I suggested factory reset, I will have to do that tomorrow as I cannot lose doing work at the moment. I'd hate to dump this router for something else, as this served me well when I first got it. Now, it's DHCP/connection issues is just plain unacceptable. :\

Save your router configuration to file before doing a factory reset.
After the reset, make sure ALL devices are OFF accept one wired connected PC.
Go in and reserve the wired PC first. Configure wireless settings for single mode G or mixed G and N.
Then turn on one of the wireless devices. Reserve it. Then turn on the next device and reserve it.
Do this until all devices are reserved in the DHCP Reservation list.

Finish configuring the router as you need then do another save of the configuration to file.

What happens if you turn off the wireless radio and just test with wired devices? Try testing with out the 685 wireless radio being on and connect the external AP. Any issues seen here?

Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.

I turned off the Wifi radio, just wired + the TRENDnet TEW-637AP (as external AP)... DHCP will still fail. THere's a cordless phone, but I removed that, and still have issues. No other routers in the vicinity.

I am at a loss with this now. I replaced it with a different router. :\

I might try to reload firmware and see using the FW update sticky process.
I would swap out cables too, try new CAT5e.
Give a DIR-825 a try too. Keep us posted.
