help with locla network access
« on: February 21, 2009, 12:25:10 PM »

I have 2 computers and a storage server built from a 3rd computer,
all have static ip address within the same subnet
computer one> can access both other computers just fine, and can ping both other computers
computer two, can access computer one, but not the storage computer
it can ping computer one, but not the storage

I can't figure out why it can't see or reach the storage computer,
any thoughts?

windows xp
storage comp doesn't have free access to the wan so no security on that
on 2 main computers however, running windows xp and bitdefender antivirus
but, thats been disabled and not making a difference

It was working....
One thing that has changed is I am using the dynamic DNS service on the router so that I can log in to the storage server from outside the network, without giving free access to the server,,
based on username and password on the server

it seems to be working just fine
but I'm still having problems with second computer accessing the server
it can't even use the printer,,or ping...the server,, which means,, from what I see..its a router problem..but I can't find a setting that would cause this

the computer that isn't working; is it wired or wireless?  Is the problem computer able to surf the web?

It's highly doubtful the router is the cause of your trouble-- a router does not arbitrarily decide to just disable a single computer's ability to share files & printers.

Are you sure the problem computer on the same workgroup as your other two?  I'm also assuming your storage computer is running Windows of some kind as well.
