First of all this is a good router when used with in it's designed range. 600 ft is well beyond any range of most home routers. 1 wall it should be good. Mine goes about 20 feet from my living room to the back office which is well with in the 20 feet I need.

2ndly, wireless speeds attained are not the same as wired speeds. This is the nature of wireless that all Mfrs exhibit. Just the way it is. Many variables, standards and conditions contribute to wireless speeds and actual xfer speeds. At most when I'm 5Ghz single mode N with my Mac Book Pro to my server on a Gb network, 10-maybe 15Mb. Wired you should see 50-60Mb on a Gb network if certain conditions are met.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz or turn it off if you don't need it.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I have the 2.4 (sorry about earlier type 2.5)  set to use WEP because of legacy g products.  It is in a Mixed mode.  The 5Ghz mode is set to N only and is using WPA-Personal, TPIK and AES.  There are a couple of devices, (phone, a netbook, Logitech Duet) that are connected but not drawing any heavy data t the time of testing.  This was the results of testing 1 device, the Cisco Bridge WE610N).  I am trying to connect it to an older PS3 to stream video, it does not have wireless N, so I bought this bridge to increase the bandwidth for it.  When I bought the 825, there were not much for bridges available.

Trendnet makes some specific PS and xbox N game wifi adapters for these units as an addon. Guys in the DGL-4500 forum have mentioned that they work well. I would set the 2.4Ghz to Mixed G and N unless you still have some B mode devices.

Wired...I have tried wireless N however I stream BD files from my server and N can't handle those. Other then that, wireless works well for Boxxee like netflix and such.

Well, I finally got the 825.  It took me about 3.5 hours this morning to get it installed, configured and working as expected with all my other routers and wireless devices.  It was a real pain in the a$$ just to update the firmware because I didn't know I had to do it incrementally.  That alone took about 20 minutes if not longer by the time I figured out I had to go from 2.02 to 2.03 to 2.05 and finally 2.06.

Everything seems to be working fine until a little while ago when I can't connect to the router web UI any longer.  Everything's working fine, but when I try to go to the router UI I can't get to it.  I can ping the IP just fine but the browser won't load it.  I can get to my DIR-655 and DAP-1522 just fine and I'm going through the 825 to get to them.  Makes no sense.  Any ideas?  I tried both the IP directly, with https and the name I gave it and it just won't do anything.

Is it your primary host router or configured as an AP? if an AP, then you need to connet to the router using the manual router IP address you put in under Setup/network settings. It will bring up the routers web page. How mine is done. If host router then the default 192.168.0.1 should work. What browser do you use? Try a different one like Opera or FF.

It's configured just as I wanted, i.e., 825 is primary, 655 is as a switch connected directly to 825 (no wireless).  It was working just fine a few hours ago.  I just got on to configure some port forwarding and can't get to the dang page.  I haven't done anything since the dang thing was working.

Yes, I'm using the IP I assigned it, just like my 655 and the 1522 AP.  It hasn't even been one full day and already problems...The strangest thing is that EVERYTHING connected to all equipment is working fine and accesses what it's supposed to access.  It's just the page won't come up as if the router has lost all its pages internally.  Similar to a website that has somepage.aspx and then you remove the page only (typical HTTP 404 error).

Oh, forgot to mention that I use both IE, FF and Chrome and all show the 404 Not Found.  Yikes!

And your getting internet ok?
Is the PC your using to connect to the router set up for automatic Ip addressing or have you set up a static IP address on the PC? Preferred is automatic.
Reboot the PC to be sure.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Oh yeah.  EVERYTHING's working perfectly except for getting to the router UI.  Makes no sense.  Like I said, my IP for the router is fine, i.e., I can ping it and get to it, but the page is NOT there so you get the standard "page not found" HTTP 404 error.

Yes, the 825 is set up for DHCP.  I do reserve specific IPs on the router like I did with my 655, but my PCs are set up to use DHCP to get their reserved addresses, i.e., no static IPs.

BTW, I had already done everything you suggested below.  There is one thing that I didn't do since this popped up and that's unplugging the router and replugging it back in to "reset" it.  THIS did work.  After plugging the router back in and letting it go through its boot process, I was able to get back in.  What the heck?  Have you heard of this happening with anyone else?

It'll be interesting to see if it just happens again during the day today or over the next few days.  Like I said, everything was working fine when I was able to access the UI and then I came back later to do a little more configuration and was not able to get to it.  Not a good sign.

Thanks for your help FurryNutz.

Well, it just went into that funky mode again where I can't get to the UI.  It's got to be a bug in the built-in software that serves those pages.  The 655 is very solid and never ran into this where the 825 seems buggy and even when the UI works, it's MUCH slower to respond than the 655's.
Code: [Select]
The webpage cannot be found
 HTTP 404

Most likely causes:
•There might be a typing error in the address.
•If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.

What you can try:

Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page.
Go to  and look for the information you want.

More information
This error (HTTP 404 Not Found) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but the page you wanted was not found. It's possible that the webpage is temporarily unavailable. Alternatively, the website might have changed or removed the webpage.

For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.

What FW is currently loaded?
I'm going to recommend you update to v2.05 as what is on my router at the moment. I never saw this issue that I remember when I first got it and it was loaded with 2.02 I think. Follow the FW update steps detailed in the FW update sticky and also there are 2 files you use for updating to 2.05 and I think you have to update to 2.03 before applying 2.05. You can update to 2.06 if you like, it just adds IPv6 and thats it. I don't have IPv6 here yet so I just stuck with 2.05. Go head and update the FW.

Let us know if you need help.

Per what I mentioned in my previous post arleady, I updated from 2.02 that was in the router when I got it all the way to 2.06.  So I'm current.  I've applied them in steps, i.e., 2.03 then 2.05 (1 then 2) and finally 2.06.  And yes, like I said, the 2.06 is NOT incremental, so I had to apply each one individually until I got to the last one.

Again, EVERYTHING is working fine, i.e., the router is doing it's job.  I think I'll call support and see what they say if anything useful.

And you did follow the steps outlined in the FW update sticky?

Seems odd that your loosing router UI connection.

Do you have any 3rd party security installed on the PC your testing with? Disable them temporarily and see. Including windows Firewall to be sure.
Try using a different browser like Opera or FF? Same thing?
If your using IE8 or 9 set the compatibility mode button.

Are there any specific steps you may be wanting me to follow?  I did look at it and I've pretty much done the steps in there.  I guess I can reset it to factory, yet again, and load my saved config and see if that cures it.

The other options really don't make any sense to be honest.  Like I've already mentioned, I've used IE, FF and Chrome so it's not a browser issue.  I don't see any issues with any security as I've tried disabling it but it works fine with it enabled when I unplug the router and then plug it back in so it reboots.  My conclusion is a bug in the software that servers the UI.  I think there's something happening after the initial router boot, during normal usage, that is fraking the UI pages.

BTW, it's "losing" the UI and not "loosing." ;)  Always mis-used and drives me nuts. LOL
