AH there we go, do a factory reset and this time, DON'T upload the saved configuration and just manually input the settings.

OMG! Do you have any idea HOW MANY SETTINGS I HAVE?  I just finished the factory reset and restoring my settings.  Let's see how that goes.

BTW, I had also done the reset via the reset on the back and that BEFORE manually entering all my settings.  I basically saved my configuration after the initial set up, then after security/wifi and then after port forwarding and remaining settings.

Is there a way to export all the settings to a text or XML file?

I have alot of settings too. Just sometimes going from one major FW version to another and loading the previous configuration introduces problems as some of the newer options don't reflect in the old configuration. Also the configuration file could be corrupt in some way just enough to carry over the problems seen in the last FW version.

I've never heard of any exporting of the settings from the router to XML. You might try to view the routers web page by turning off your browser Styles then see if you can export from there. Not sure if that will work for you or not.

Helps to take screen captures of each page on the router for reference though.

I know what you mean, which is why I had reset the router, applied all the FW upgrades first and THEN started setting it up.  So all my saved config "checkpoints" were AFTER all FW upgrades were done.

Yep, I used to use screen caps, but now I use copy/paste into MS Word because I can then copy/paste back the settings.  Less typing. ;)  Yeah, I've turned off the styles before to get ALL the settings but it's actually less messy to just copy/paste the normal screens to be honest.

So the problem is back already since my last post.  So resetting and reloading my saved config did NOT resolve this.  So I'll do the reset next but configure it manually and see what happens.  Ugh...this is making me regret I bought this thing.  Thank goodness I have 30 days to return it.

By the way, I found this to be interesting.  I use this old D-Link Gadget to get router status and check out what it shows for the Network section when the UI IP is accessible (valid) and when it becomes inaccessible (invalid).  What's odd is that the Gadget, once connected, can still, or at least it seems, communicate with the router even though a browser cannot, however, notice that the LAN PortX status is NOT correct.  If I reboot the PC, at that point, the Gadget can no longer connect to the router due to lack of access at that point.

Accessible UI and Not accessible respectively:

Okay, so I reconfigured the router from scratch.  It was a real pain in the a$$ to start.  For some reason, when I changed the default IP from 192.168.0.1 to my custom one and it saved it, I would no longer be able to access the router at the IP.  This happened several times after each one I had to start over by resetting the router to factory via the reset switch on the back.

I couldn't ping it either.  The ping worked via the IPv6 default for the ping command but when I used -4 it would NOT recognize it and times out.  I can access it via http://dlinkrouter but after every other screen, it goes back to the login page so it's really impossible to do anything.

Do you think I have a defective router?  Would it be prudent to return it at this point for a replacement?  I'm about to do that because I've wasted HOURS on this.  I'll definitely return it if after all this, it still goes into that funk where everything works but I can't access the UI.  Stay tuned...

No don't think it's defective as I also use a custom IP address for the router that not a 192.168 addr. Are you sure you are setting the PC network properties to auto obtain and after you change the routers IP address, subnet mask and DHCP server properties, that the PC is either rebooted or you refresh the network by doing a ipconfig /release then /renew? Also /flushdns as well after you have rebooted the router?

Yes, yes, yes.  I do and have done all of that.  The damn problem of not being able to get to the UI is back as well.  So resetting and reconfiguring from scratch was a wash.

I even did this with ONLY my primary computer connected to take all other possible causes out of the equation.  I'm going to return it and get a replacement product as I don't think D-Link support will be of any help.

Yeah, I'm on the line with D-Link support now just to try it before I return it.  I figured it was worth a try to see if they have any ideas.  Thankfully I got connected to a friendly agent.  I'm not very hopeful this will be fixed to be honest.

[UPDATE] So after she spoke with a senior technician, they pretty much suggested I return it and get another one.

The irony is it was actually functioning great with only that one odd thing.  I unfortunately cannot get an exchange and will have to send it back for a refund and how the the least expensive one I can find is $20 more than what I paid for this one.  Ugh...

Can't you send it to DLink?

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz or turn it off if you don't need it.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I made the changes you had suggested, with a mixed G/N on the 2.4 and N on the 5Ghz.  Security set to WPA-Personal, WPA2/Auto and TPIK and AES. there are 3 devices connected, no cordless phones, etc.
Speed increased to 13.5Mbit  changing the channel width to auto 20/40 the 5Ghz to 40Mhz was most helpful.

Thanks.

Not according to the lady I spoke with.  She said I have to send it back to where I purchased it and get another one.  I did think that was odd.  I'm going to call them back and see if I can send it to them to fix.

BTW, I had also tried keeping the standard address in the configuration, i.e., 192.168.0.xxx and it does the same thing.  So definitely something in the router software.

[UPDATE] Okay, I spoke with D-Link again and further explained my situation and they did provide an RMA for a replacement.  Whew!  Thanks Furry for asking that question. :)
