Ru-Fi-Oh & Reinvented,

There is one thing I'm thinking (wondering) may possibly be causing the differences you are seeing in the results each of you are getting.

This may be a long shot, but seeing as you are both running A1 units....

Are the Wi-Fi cards in the Routers the exact same or are they different?
(IE: model, build #, chipset, ect...)

If the mini-PCI card is problematic or defective, then there will be problems no matter how good the router is.

Might there be any other differences between your units?

Reinvented,

Maybe you can pull the mini-PCI card from the router and install it in your laptop to test it out and run some diagnostics to see if anything shows up?

As I said, this may be a long shot, but at this point, it may be worth looking into.

Reinvented,
Please provide me with the serial number to your router, there is something I'd like to check.

Ru-Fi-Oh:  Even after reflashing and not loading a configuration file, it's still exhibiting all of these wonderful problems.

Wireless doesn't seem as bad now, but it still pops out lots of errors, and will random disconnect as well.  Logs show a few deauthentications, but I've seen it say that it's timed out and then associate, and then secured and linked.

Here's a run down of my settings..

Open DNS servers...both Primary and Secondary.
Wireless: 2.4 GHz, N/G, Channel 11, Best Rate, Auto 20/40Hz, Auto WPA/WPA2, TKIP/AES
DHCP: 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.110
5 DHCP reservations for laptop, iphone, printer, and two for an Apple Timecapsule
WPS: Off/Disabled
GameFuel: On and Manual 1024.  Cable Network selected.  No rules.
Port Forwarding: 192.168.0.101 to Warcraft 3 6112-6119, 4000
SPI Firewall: Enabled AND Disabled
TCP/UDP Filtering: Endpoint Independent, Address Restricted/Port and Address Restricted, and Port and Address Restricted
WISH: All/Automatic, No rules
Time: NTP server ntp1.dlink.com

Those are all of my settings for my router.  Ones that I've used, and that's it.

Still every reboot, causes the time server to lose it's settings.  And wireless is still poor spitting out errors.

I'll get you the serial in a bit, Lycan.

Serial number: F3OB182003891
HW Ver: A1
FW: 1.02

I also just found an updated beta driver that works now with the wireless for Intel Pro adapters.
So, I'm happy about that.

However, the wireless performance is still very poor.  It's dropped so much as of late after updating to this new firmware.  Nothing's changed at all, except the firmware.  Causes very low signal levels, and even more errors and retransmits.

Also, I've noticed that if I do automatic uplink speed and set the connection type to auto, it will register my cable connection as XDSL Relay.

And a new request...on the Status page, can we have the "QoS Engine" say, "GameFuel Engine" instead?

Tried 1.16, lots of errors with Wireless.

I cleared the statistics, and in less than one minute it showed there were over 400,000 wireless errors.

Flashed back to 1.15

qtmod,

Did you configure your router from scratch after upgrading the firmware? Or did you load a config from the previous firmware?

Reinvented,

I'll ask Lycan about the serial number you provided.

I loaded a config.  Played with some settings, changing wireless channels manually, and many other settings.  Nothing I did seemed to help with the errors.

Try doing what I did.  I reflashed the firmware another time, after I did a very long reset.  Tipstir recommended this, and it seems to help a bit.  If you are familiar with DD-WRT, it's what they use and recommend you do after a flash.

Errors are still the same, but not THAT many within a few seconds.  And the speed still wavers greatly too over wireless.

I just found this thread, and I have my 1.15 backed up (both config *and* .bin) and will give this new version a shot to see if I have issues as noticed by some of the others as well.

FWIW, I have an A1 revision as well....

I am having problems with UPnP and my Windows Home Server. The only version of firmware I didn't have problems with was 1.02. After a reboot of the router, the WHS is able to forward ports properly and everything works fine. The problem occurs after the routers is up for 24-72 hours. Port forwarding stops working and I get errors on my WHS. Nothing I do to the WHS will fix the issue, only a reboot to the router.

Hey there,
I know it is a bit repetitive, and not sure if it helps, but I have captured the threads from both forums, and I was keen to check that the following sounds about right as a summary of the feedback?

I was going to go through the reported symptoms from the other thread when I get a chance too.

It would be great to hear an official comment on what Dlink thought that 1.16 had helped with?

List of reported faults: 1.15
* router resets and random disconnections from games.
* UPnP-related bugginess/multicasting issues
x can't make any changes without resetting the router.
x Port forwarding
x Connection drops

List of reported symtoms 1.16
* Report of slightly slower x3 reported
# Report of slower DNS resolution
* Higher rate of packets dropped over wireless on both 1.16 and 1.15 - It seems worse on the upload than the download (?) x 2 reported.
x my wireless performance has been very very flaky. Drops often.
* e-mail configuration still doesn't seem to support SSL authentication/security
x gaming, and port forwarding and dropped connections x1 report
* 3x reports of all good.
x I also couldn't access Wireless Security Setup Wizard or Add Wireless Device WITH WPS (WI-FI PROTECTED SETUP) Wizard. After I went back to 1.15 I could.

Not clear if there is a rollback from this firmware?

---
1.16 Appears to have fixed:
*UPnP-related bugginess/multicasting issues
x Backupconfig too
x A rumor of DNS exploit that I am assuming was quietly patched in v1.12

I just added the following in the list of reported symptoms on 1.16:

"There is evidence to suggest that 1.16 has a higher rate of packets dropped over wireless than 1.15".

Does this make sense too Reinvent3d? "It seems worse on the upload than the download"?

Would be really nice to have a comment from someone from Dlink? :-)

Cheers,

Port forwarding stops working and I get errors on my WHS. Nothing I do to the WHS will fix the issue, only a reboot to the router.

Interesting.   Overall, UPnP support and functionality is drastically improved (repaired) in my usage and testing with 1.16, as it has corrected multicast/SSDP/SOAP support/behavior in the UPnP IGD stack.   So far, all my UPnP IGD NAT Traversal enabled apps are able to communicate with the 4500 properly for mapping and unmapping port forwarding entries etc without any issue at all.   Windows/Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, WMP, uTorrent/BitTorrent, etc etc all have no issues etc.  Additionally, my XBox 360 has a pretty static UPnP mapping with the 4500 and hasn't had any issues whatsoever making connections etc.

Additionally, the Windows UPnP IGD interface support is working properly again, as the previous 1.1x firmware broke this (due to the bugs in the multicast/SSDP/etc UPnP stack).  This essentially means you will see the "Internet Gateway" listed in Network Connections again, and/or also showing in your systray as a connection icon (depending on your settings).

I do have a copy of WHS available, and if I have a chance, I'll load it into VPC and check out its UPnP communications to see what gives, if anything.

Well I took a chance and flashed to this new fw and can only hope that it doesn't turn ******ed like the 1.15 fw did.  I did enable the wireless on a sunday only schedule of 1 minute just in case that problem still exists with this version.
