Hey guys, it's been a few years since I've checked this forum.  My DNS-323 has been running like a champ since day one.  But now I've gone and done some upgrading...and an issue popped up that I just can't figure out.

I plugged in an SSD (alongside my still working HDD) this week and installed Win7 on it.  So when I boot up, I get the option to boot into either drive...(don't think that has any bearing).

Within Windows, my Network sees the DNS as a Storage item but I can't map to it.

I d/l'ed the Easy Search Utility, and it sees it just fine as well...but also won't let me map it to a drive.

Heck, I can even pull up and log into the device through IE and change settings, etc.

My wife's PC still sees and accesses the unit just fine.  I know it's getting an IP address, etc.

We should both be on the Home Network...but I think this is my issue in some manner.

I am "joined" to the HomeGroup and Network type shows Home network and under System Properties/Computer Name both PC's are under Workgroup: WORKGROUP.

But if I try to click on either the wife's PC or my own that I'm "on"...I get an error:  \\"PC" is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource....etc."

Now, I just installed Win7 and didn't set a user or password for it. So I'm not sure why this is occuring...should have full admin rights here.

EDIT:  posting this made me think of the old HDD...Rebooted into it and it still sees the NAS just fine.  iTunes "sees" it but won't let me access it either.

Your problem is purely Windows 7 related - as evidenced by the fact that you can continue to access the NAS from your wife's computer, and from yours if you boot from the old WinXP drive - and also - when booted from Windows 7 you cannot access either the NAS or your wife's system.

Time to contact Microsoft.

Your problem may be related to the lack of a password on Windows 7, or to your "home group" since neither Windows XP or the NAS are a member of that "home group" (and cannot be made members, the "home group" is a new Windows 7 only feature), a third possibility, but I feel a distant one, is the firewall on the Windows 7 system.

Let me clarify, the old HDD is a Win7 install as well (not XP).  So both HDD and SSD are running off the same Win7 install/license.  I have not activated the OS w/ MS on the SSD as yet, however.  Wanted to make sure I had everything up/running first. 

I couldn't just clone the old HDD to the SSD because it's a much bigger install base now (260GB vs. 180GB on the SSD).

I did use the Home network password off the wife's machine to join the Home network.

But I do agree that in some manner, it is a Windows issue vs. anything else.  Just not sure what to try...maybe disconnecting from the network and trying over, but seems there may be some other items I'd need to do as well to ensure I'm 100% "off" before rejoining.

Fixed: went back into the HDD desktop (since that was "working" and studied everything. Noticed a whole lot more items installed under that NIC's Properties than I recalled in the SDD OS. Including...Cilent for MS Networks. It was a Christmas miracle.

No idea why that was not installed up-front...
