Need immediate help. Odd situation.
« on: January 14, 2012, 05:33:31 PM »

Hey everyone, I'm new, just FYI.

I just bought the 655, mainly for school/Xbox. My parents use it also, but I bought it for myself mainly (shh). I set it up correctly and got connected, but suddenly I wasn't allowed Internet access. The router connects to my laptop, but won't get Internet access. I called customer service and he didn't know what to do. We tried everything he knew and nothing worked. I don't want to return the router cause I read it was very good, but I need internet for school. I have Rev. A and F/W 2.00. Any help would be appreciated!

I can't get any internet connection at all. That needs to be solved first.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Service - AT&T DSL
Modem - I'm not sure if it's built in or not.
Modem model - Motorola 2210-02

Should I bridge the modem? If so, should it be set to strictly bridge or pppoe bridge? Also, how do I change the firewall on the router? I appreciate your help. Customer service didn't help at all and all the sites I've read don't help a lot.

Need to call your ISP and have them help you bridge the modem. If it does, you'll prob need the user name and password for the PPPoE to use on the routers web page under Setup/Internet/Manual

It seems like the router should use DHCP dynamic for connecting to the modem.  Connect your laptop to the modem to make sure you have internet connection.  Then reboot and reconnect the router back to the modem, and reconnect the laptop to the router.

Hi Hammr33,

Seems like no one is reading or assuming.

What is the Hardware Revision of your D-Link DIR-655 Router?

What is the Firmware Version again?

What you said, does not exist on current models? You might have a Bootleg Model. Take it back.

Lets try bridging the ISP modem first and see if that works before assuming anything else.
