A couple basic functions request for next firmware update
« on: March 09, 2009, 06:11:44 PM »

Hey!

A couple easy suggestions for the next firmware upgrade:

1-Would be nice to have the "Fast Ethernet Virtual Cable Tester (VCT)" (like the one found in Tools/SystemCheck on the WBR-2310)

2-I'd like to see in real time what devices are connected wired and wireless on the router with IP addresses and MAC info in a simple little table.  My old Netgear had that feature, it's kind useful to know what's connected at a given time.  Perhaps it's there and I missed it?

As a side note: I got the DIR-655 A4 last week.  After a few days had a "wireless: Init failed" error.  After firmware upgrades, downgrades, resets, finally called customer support.  They said I should return for an exchange from where I bought it as it can't be fixed from the customer end.  That certainly fixed the problem, got another A4, that's all they had.  I hope this one won't die on me otherwise I'm going for a refund...

The connected device info you want in #2 is at the bottom of the Status>Device Info page, which is the first page you see after you log in. Status>Wireless shows you the connected wireless devices.

...And your NIC manufacturer (9/10 of the onboard NIC manufacturers) will also supply a virtual cable tester program, as will Asus motherboards. So would probably will be a little overkill to use the scarce router resources for this task.

But thanks for the thought.

Thanks, I see that, however the list includes devices that are not connected to the router. I currently have 5 LAN computers showing in this list under Status>Device info, yet the router has only 4 LAN ports and only 2 cables connected to the router in the LAN ports.  The Wireless LAN list currently shows one computer, however this computer is not conected (it's my work laptop that is not home today)

It looks like the lists is for any DHCP address that have been used and kept reserved...

You can revoke DHCP address leases under Setup>Network Settings. Or restart.

Yes, that's true...however it would be nice if it actually "showed" the real status of those computers UNDER the Status tab.  ;)

It's not that hard to read what he's asking for guys...geeze.

Yep it's easy to understand what he's asking.

In the meantime he has a workaround using the current firmware!
