How to use the P2P functionnality ?
« on: February 08, 2012, 03:27:21 AM »

Hey everyone !

I would like to understand how to use the integrated p2p functionnality, so that I could dl and seed all my torrents via my NAS.

I nerver used it before, so if someone has a tutorial or a quick explaination of where to put folders, how to tell my computer that torrents MUST be downloaded by my NAS, etc., that would be great !  :D

PS : I currently use uTorrent, each of my torrents are managed by it.

Hem ... what do you not understand ?

I can reformulate my problem : I wanna download and seed torrents throught my NAS (and not with my computer anymore), so that I can seed all day long, without the need of having my computer on.

I know my DNS-325 have this functionnality, BUT I don't know how to use it. That's why I would like someone to explain me how to process to make p2p sharing working on my NAS.

Thank you by advance !

Didn't the instructions on pages 93-94 in the >User Manual< help you get started?
Took me exactly 5 minutes to enable P2P on NAS, set up port forwarding on router and add a torrent from URL. And I can confirm : it really works!

Thank you for this answer.

The thing, I remember weeks ago I saw this page and I tried to make it work.
But, any of the URL I found worked properly, always getting a "fail" or "fail : error code 4" message.
Or if no error message, I got an infinite "wait ..." on the screen, just as if it was going to work ... but nothing at all, it keeps displaying this message.
That's why I don't really get what to put in the URL field.

And by the way, is there noway to automatically fill this field with a torrent address and auto-start it when clicking on a torrent link on a webpage ?

Hi Emerick,
No solution but a couple questions.  What browser are you using when locating torrents and what exactly are you doing to capture the torrent url?

The URL you are giving must point directly to a downloadable .torrent file, not any redirected URL!
If this doesn't work for you, then simply download the .torrent file to your PC and upload via the same screen (a line below URL entry) to NAS.
PS obviously, it won't take the lately popular Magnet Links.

Thank you guys for thoose answers.

I finally got it working, by using the "file" input. I put a .torrent file in it and worked properly. :)

So I guess my main problem is solved :D

Still I have one question : is there no way to automatically download torrents throught my NAS WITHOUT having to :

- download a .torrent file
- go to NAS administration
- select the p2p application
- put the .torrent file in ...

No other way ? :D

After some researches, I found that "transmission remote" can help me do that.

Does someone around here use it ?

I use my browser, download the .torrent and save it to /P2P/Torrent directory on the NAS volume_1
The torrent file will be picked up automatically from that dir by the NAS.

Ohhh, pretty nice, I get it !

Seems pretty useful !

I have one more question : I can't access the "p2p" folder from my computer.
I mean, I can't DIRECTLY access it. There's no way.

The only way to get my downloads on my computer is via the web application "Web file server".
Any odea about this ?

Oh and, still another question : I found that sometimes, some .torrent don't start in the list of my p2p app on the NAS... whereas on my computer, with my client (µTorrent) everything goes well. Any idea ?

By the way, thank you guys for being that reactive ! I'm really starting to enjoy my experience with this NAS thanks to you ! :D

Not too sure if this is the right area for this question but i can't seem to find anything in the topics and this is the closest topic i have seen.

With regards to the encryption on the p2p service - does anyone know what encryption is uses and is there anyway of specifying my own block lists?

do i need to install a plugin for this?

Any help greatly appreciated on this
