Now, the $100,000 question: why is it not recognizing DNS name?

Great suggestion!
This is related to Windows name resolution. In complex networks or sometimes even in simple network this resolution not working or some computers is not appears in network for long time. Microsoft tries to fix this problem by using WINS Server or combination of Microsoft DHCP and WINS, e.t.c.  So don't be upset, this is Microsoft after all.
