DIR 645 behind EasyBox (Vodafone)
« on: February 23, 2012, 03:36:32 AM »

This is my scenario: From my provider I got that (****py) Easybox that I can not configure as Modem only (I tried, but I did not get VoiP to run).
So I configured it to be a router and gave it the IP- Address 10.10.10.1, with DHCP enabled (10.10.10.100 - .254).
I connected WAN- Port of the DIR645 to the first LAN- Port of the Easybox and configured WAN to use Static IP. I entered 10.10.10.2 as an IP- Address and 10.10.10.1 as default gateway.

The LAN- IP of the DIR is 192.168.1.1 ...

Although the status says "Line Connected", I can not ping 10.10.10.1 from the DIR (and vice versa).

Am I wrong with my assumption that this should work?

Of course I can simply configure both routers to use the same Subnet and just let the Easybox do all the work. But then the DIR is only a WLAN- Router and I can not use the whole functionality. In addition I can not get the DIR645 to connect to the internet in the scenario:

Both Routers use 192.168.1.x- Addresses, are connected from LAN1 to LAN1 (no WAN- Port involved).

Can anyone advice how to configure this the best?`

Thanx

EDIT: I use the most current Firmware DIR-645_fw_reva_102b07_ALL_de_20111104 I could find...

Does the ISP modem have a DMZ? If so, put the IP address that the 645 gets from the ISP modem into the DMZ. See if you can reserve the IP address of the 645 on the modem as well.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What region are you located?

Thank you for your reply.

At the moment I have the 645 configured to use a static address (does not get its address from the ISP modem), but I can test this as well. I will also test the DMZ- setting...

I come from germany and use DSL.

Once it's the DMZ it should work well, however be aware that it probably won't be able to ping a 10 address from a 192 address since there probably not in the same subnet.

The only device in the 10.x.x.x net is the "old" router... I do not need to access it (once everything works).

I just wanted to make sure, that I got everything right: Other router connected to WAN- Interface and WAN set to "static IP"... If it does not work after putting it in DMZ, then I assume, that there is something wrong with my DIR645... I tried so many configurations already (also had a FritzBox instead of the EasyBox in front of it) and nothing worked...

Thanx again, I will try in the evening.

Are you using the STatic IP Internet Option on the 645 router under Setup/Internet/Connection Type or DHCP?

You should use DHCP and once it gets and IP address from the ISP modem, then input that IP address into the DMZ on the ISP Modem and you should be good to go.

Ok, I tried:
 WAN Status sais
Connection Type: DHCP Client
Cable status: connected
Network Status: Disconnected

I can not get anything to work over the wan port...

Dhcp does not work, static ip does not work and when i use the router as pure modem, then the dir stays on Network status: busy forever.

Could this be a hardyware issue with the WAN port?

Thanx for your help

I would swap out cables. Any chance you could try this with a different modem or take this to a different location with a different modem? I'm wondering if this could be a compatibility issue or there could be just a problem with the WAN port. I would try also a different router and test as well.

Although the cable worked for the direct connection, it did not for any other connection... Thanx for your advice. Now almost everything works... But for the other thing i will open another thread.
