Who's on my router?
« on: February 25, 2012, 03:45:07 AM »

I'm pretty sure someone who shouldn't be on my network is. I can see what MAC addresses have a wireless session and I've used MAC Filtering to stop some MAC addresses from using the network at certain times, but they are still getting through to the internet. I don't know if they were to clone their MAC address as to whether this would show up with the cloned address in active sessions list. Anyone know how I can stop some users from getting through at certain times? Also, anyone know of any utility I can use on my Mac (Mac OS X 10.6.8) to show which computers/MAC addresses are on the network?  :)

Hi, what do you use WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WEP ?  Mac filternig can not help, it is easy to crack. Please use WPA2-PSK, and strong password with letters and numbers and some special symbol

I use WPA2. I'm trying to stop my son using the internet all night, so I've set up a schedule and put MAC Filtering on, but somehow he is finding a way round it. I think he may be cloning a MAC address but I don't know how to prove it.

are you making sure he doesn't have access to the routers web page?
You could set a schedule on the WiFi that cuts everone off at night. Not sure if this would be an option for you.

I don't think he's got access to the router. I've set a schedule up for weekdays and weekends, I've then used MAC Filtering to allow access to certain computers only at the times in the schedule. To test it, I've put my iPhone in the same group and that loses access at the right time, but my son is able to stay on the internet. Is there a bug in MAC Filtering?

is he wired or wireless to the router?
If hes wireless, then set up a schedule for the Wireless itself. There is probably a ADD NEW button next to the Enable wireless check mark. This will set up a schedule for all wireless and this will help you keep in him check while you or we can figure this out.

If he's wired then you can just disconnect the LAN cable from the router if it's in a locked room.
