pc backup to nas
« on: March 07, 2012, 01:30:46 AM »

hi

I'm looking at setting an auto backup of several folders from a pc to the nas 320. since I have Windows 7 home premium this isn't allowed through their backup software. is it possible to set the nas to retreive the folders I want?

I had a look at the backup options but it says it needs a url. any help would be great.

cheers
danny

Search the web there's loads of free tools / software out there that can backup your pc. Its personal preference really as to what to use. One good software is Alwaysynchttp://allwaysync.com which is free synctoy from microsoft is another but not as friendly as allwaysync. You could also write your own batch or VB script files to do the same and run as a schedule or manual backup.

Hi,
I am not sure if it would work or not, but you might try mapping the NAS drive into your Windows Home Premium machine and see if that will be accepted as a acceptable location for backups.  Should be easy enough to check.  Good luck

Try this if a simple mapped drive fails

Hi,

The answer was given in others posts : it was possible up to FW 2.0, mais not with the last release 2.02b (probably a bug). Anyway.
If you use an fw 2.0, you must use the UNC form of your local directory to copy. And of course, you must declare in the NAS a user with corrects rights on this directory (Read at last).

Good luck !

Using Syncback but only issue I have is that if the NAS box is in standby or the hard drive is is in standby the software won't pick up the drives.
