DIR-655 connected to DIR-632 issues
« on: March 18, 2012, 01:15:47 PM »

Hi,

I am running an ethernet network in my house.  I have my cable modem connected to the DIR-632 in the garage.  Upstairs I have a DR-655 that I have plugged into my network.  I have no problem with my PC but the DIR-655 isn't working at all.  It will just drop connections.  I have cloned my PC's mac address so that anything going TO the cable modem shows as my PC (which it should). I want to use my iPad2 when I am lounging around and it won't connect with the DR-655.

Is this a problem with MAC addressing? I have the basic setup on DIR-655 other than credentials WPA2 security, etc.  Do I need to do something different with DIR-655 to work with the DIR-632 and not have any issues?

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts.

Do you have the 655 set up as and AP or still running the 655 as a standard router off the host router?
Turning a router in to an AP
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?

Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Hmm well I tried to follow your guide and that was "fail" for me.  Right now all I want to do is turn the 632 into a regular router (no wireless) and pass my PC's mac address through on anything connected to the router.

I had to reset the 632 so I can configure it back to what it was only without wireless.  Then I am going to connect the 655 directly and see if I can configure it to just be a WAP.  That's all I want to do.

if your going to use the 655 as an AP, use only the LAN ports to connect to the LAN ports on the back of the 632 router.
