OK, I bought the 645 to replace my 655 as I was having some connection issues (since resolved with antenna reflectors), however the 645 had a worse signal in the area I was having trouble with. So with the 655 working now I attempted to extend the wireless to 1 other area at the back of the house.  This all seemed to be working yesterday. Here's the setup:
Cable modem ---655----645
There is only one computer wired to the 645 all other computers are connected by wireless. So I matched the SSID, password and security on the 645 with the 655, only the channels are different. 655 on channel 1 and the 645 has scan enabled. there are two other SSID's around me but the signals are very low, on channels 6 and 11. (-80db or greater)
The AP's are connected by ethernet cable, port 1 to port 1, wired computer is on 645 port 2. everything seemed to be working yesterday just fine, and I was getting usable signal in the back porch for the wife. Today however no matter what I do if I'm wirelessly connected to the 645 I get no internet connection. Internet connection on the 655 is fine.

Any ideas?

Edit: forgot to say the Aps are configured as 192.168.0.1 (655) and 192.168.0.2 (645)

OK I disconnected the router and reset it. I followed the instructions in your post. The only things different from yesterday were disabling UPNP and I had left over DNS addresses from when I tried to use the 645 as my main AP. The only departure from your instructions were to switch to 802.11n only ( I only have wireless N devices) I tried mixed mode first and it worked, but the whole 140 vs 300 thing bothers me. so I switched it back. At first I used a different SSID so I know I was connected to the 645. Everything seems to be working. I have since changed it back to the same SSID as the 655.

Yes a few routers in the area. However according to inSSIDer they don't seem to get above -60db except for the occasional spike. I'm getting -55 to -30 almost anywhere in the house. They are using channels 11+7, 1 and 6. lowest channels seem to be used the least, which is why my main AP is on 1.

Could it have been the UPNP and DNS settings? I hope so. I'll let you know if anything goes wrong after this.

If your going to use the same SSID as the 655, just be sure that the 655 adn 645 are using different channels, so say set the 655 at 1 or 6 and the 645 at 6 or 11, what ever the 655 is using, pick a channel farthest away from it on the 645.

I presume it was the DNS settings. Keep us posted.

Well it's been a few days and no problems. Connection is good almost anywhere in the house now. Thank you very much Fuzzy. Maybe the reset and redoing the settings, or just the removal of the DNS info was what did it. I'm now going to save the settings and leave well enough alone.

Interesting.  I have basically the same setup and I have the same SSID AND channel enabled (11) for both. So far everything seems to be working fine.  So, should I set them as you described above?  That is, with different channels?
