Set up permissions
« on: March 28, 2012, 11:43:08 AM »

I'm a bit lost when it comes to permissions and a lot of network stuff beyond the basics so need some guidance.

I connected the DNS-320 to the network via a switch and can access it via the browser or by mapping the IP. Works fine. I want to make this folder available on remote (via terminal services) and I can also access the folder via the ip once I am on remote. I added the device to our company workgroup ie MyCompany

The problem comes when I try to add a password. I am not sure if it is possible to set permissions using the existing user accounts and groups on my server - when I try to browse to the 320, then to the shared folder and click the Locations it starts with the IP of the device not the company workgroup so I am not sure if there is a way to use the workgroup users/permissions.

I also tried creating a BackupGroup group via the 320's browser interface, then a user BackupOperator but when I tried to apply those permissions by right clicking on the folder and selecting them in the Security tab I get an Access Denied error.

If anyone can tell me the right way to make this folder available to a particular group of users (using the existing user groups on the server if that is possible) or via a user.group created in the 320 admin interface and to no one else I appreciate it.

I'm fairly sure I have some technical lingo faux pas but hopefully you get the gist of my question.

Set permissions and users in the web interface in the 320. I believe if you use the same user names and passwords on the 320 as your domain then they will pass through with out having to enter BUT I'm not 100% convinced it works all the time that way so could be unreliable.
the 320 is aimed at the home market so doesn't have the sort of AD integration you are looking for.
