DIR628 share port with macbook pro
« on: March 28, 2012, 12:11:19 PM »

Will the share port work with a HD or printer connected to router?
I use a macbook pro OSX Lion.  If so, how do I activate it?

SP and Lion might not be compatible. If Lion is running in 64bit mode, I recommend that you reboot the MBP into 32bit mode by holding down 3 and 2 on the keyboard during the reboot process. Verify that your MBP is in 32 bit mode under About this Mac information.

Then install the version of SP. If SP won't install correctly, you can try a more recent version of SP v4.20 found on the DIR-827 router site. I have this loaded on my MBP on both OSX 10.6 and 10.7.

After SP is installed reboot and go back into 64bit mode on the MBP.

So you currently use the share port with 10.7 on MBP. How does it work?  Is it functional or frustrating?

I plug MBP OS10.7.3 to router when at my desk, and disconnect and use around the house.  My HP office jet 4500 is wireless although it kept locking up with my old router DIR615 while wireless.  The backup drive is Seagate Freeagent Desk that I've had for a few years and reformatted to use as extra storage and BU my MBP.

Thanks for your help

I don't use it much as my HP Laser p2014n is a LAN printer. I mainly check and test to see what others are doing in hopes of helping them. SO far I know that it works on my 655 and 657 routers.

One thing I would suggest if SP wont work for you, get yourself a USB to LAN network adapter. Then you can install the drivers on any PC and point them to the IP address of the adapter. Probably would be less hassle.
