Best software to watch videos
« on: March 30, 2012, 11:17:42 AM »

Hi all
I have setup the upnp av server and can watch the videos and music from the xbox in the bedroom,

1. Whats the best thing to use to be able to watch them on my main TV, i was looking at using the apple TV but I'm unsure if it works with the dlink upnp av server.

2. Whats the best software to use on a PC to view the files and videos through the server rather than having to click the shared drives, i want to use it similar to how the xbox does it.

Mainly i want to watch movies i have on the sharecenter on my main TV,
any help/advice appreciated

I'd advise maybe a LG new bluray player, they have great media support. I use a LG smart TV and LG BD660 and both pick up everything.

Thanks for that,
Do you know a good media player device too? i was looking at the boxee box, but the price is a little high, would be nice to have something similar but not as expensive.

If the moderator or poster is deleting my post on this topic, AT LEAST LET ME KNOW WHY!

Let's try it again...
1) Connect the PC/HTPC to the TV directly. Or build a mini HTPC. That is whay I do and been doing it for a few years. Currently have a Zotac Zbox with 4gb RAM and 160gb HD.

Know some who have this and love it as well... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883108728&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL040312&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL040312-_-EMC-040312-Index-_-DesktopPCs-_-83108728-L0A

The Boxee Box is a phenomenal device, but is rather limited in it's XBMC support. A home grown solution has that advantage over the Boxee Box.  WD, Popcorn Hour, and Netgear also offer streaming solutions -- each have their strengths and weaknesses.
