DNS-320: Lost install CD - did not work anyway!
« on: April 06, 2012, 10:15:55 AM »

Hi all,
I am at loss with this black box!  ???
When I bought the thing, full of hope and illusions, I first tried with the CD, the device would not be recognised. I lost my temper then I put the darn thing aside.   >:(
Now I am trying again, and I saw on the net that the default address is 192.68.0.32, so I tried to connect through it: no way!
I have a network in 10.x.x.x, so maybe it is that the problem. Current config is my PC on wi-fi on the 10xxx network, and when connecting the eth cable to the dns-320, ipconfig/all does not say that anything is connected. So I suppose there is no DHCP by default too?
Anybody can help, please?
Thanks!

First, the CD is not necessary to connect to the device.

If you open a web browser and enter the DNS-320's IP address, you should have access to the administrative web interface.

To access any previously formatted volumes, you need to map directly to the volume (not the IP). The default name for the first volume is "Volume_1"

eg: 192.168.1.1/Volume_1

I know this may sound a stupid question but have you switched it on?  We've had a couple of clients that had the same sounding problem you have.  When I sent someone over to check neither unit was switched on - the switch on the right of the front panel is a little difficult to see.

If you are using windows I would suggest you get a free copy of netscan by SoftPrefect - it installs by unzipping and you have both 32 and 64-bit executables.

This should find your unit on your network.  If it doesn't then I would suspect problems with the network which would need to be solved first.

You can also check if there is a network connection by observing the indicator LEDs on the ethernet socket of the unit.

Hi,
Yes it is switched on (blue light in front). I also reset it to factory defaults.
It keeps not appearing on net scan, or only on and off. SSHing Will tto any does not given anything
I will look whether it is a network prob. Will try ton connect the PC to the same router the DNS320 is connected to.
Any suggestions welcome!

Your on a different ip range (subnet) so you will not see it unless you have a route to the 192.160.0.x range.
change your pc ip address to the same range i.e 192.168.0.10 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Then you should be able to connect and change the dns320 ip to what you want.

Thanks for this advice. It has been a long time since I last had to configure a network device!
Will try this asap! And I  will come back to this forum.
Many thanks for your answers till now.
